Disney World has a lot of changes coming in 2025, and sometimes it’s hard to keep track of them all.
Thankfully, we’re here to keep track of them for you to hopefully help lower the confusion around this upcoming year. There are lots of construction projects going on in all four Disney World parks, but some of them mean that certain rides are shutting down for good. If you’re visiting the parks soon, be sure to take one last ride on these before they go away!
Magic Kingdom
Over in Magic Kingdom, THREE closures are about to hit the parks and it won’t be pretty. We aren’t sure yet about the timeline on any of these, but we know the new Cars-themed land is taking the place of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, which means that Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat will be going away in 2025.
Not only will this massively mess up the travel time and ease getting around to Frontierland, but that area of the park will also be without an attraction for the whole year. While Big Thunder Mountain Railroad isn’t closing for good entirely, it’s current version won’t be coming back!
Not only does the ride need some TLC, but we’re also assuming it’s closing to keep guests from seeing the Villains Land construction happening behind it. Regardless of the reason, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closed for the whole year and will return in 2026 with “a little bit of new magic according to Disney.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Our entire team is devastated about the loss of Muppet*Vision 3D in Hollywood Studios, but it’s a necessary evil in Disney’s eyes to bring the new Monsters, Inc. Land to life. This isn’t a ride, per se, but it is an attraction that means a lot to many guests due to its nostalgia, so we knew it was important to include. And, while Disney hasn’t technically confirmed the closing date for this spot — we have a pretty good feeling it will be in 2025.
Also in Hollywood Studios, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster as we know it will be no more! Aerosmith will be replaced by the Muppets (specifically Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem), and while the ride system and vehicle will stay the same, the new theming will likely make this ride look totally different!
We’ll also likely see some special musical guests in the ride, because Disney has said the Muppets will be “teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.” We’re really excited to see what this retheme will bring, but we are sad we’re losing Aerosmith.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Over in Animal Kingdom, parts of Dinoland U.S.A. will be closing to make way for the new Tropical Americas section of the park which will feature Encanto and Indiana Jones theming! The first of these closures will happen on January 13th, and one of them is none other than TriceraTop Spin.
However, the good news here is that it’s just been confirmed by Disney that Dinosaur, the other attraction in this area, will stay open throughout 2025! Disney will close other parts of the land first to work on the transformation, and it’s sounding like the last (or close to last) closure will be Dinosaur to allow guests more time to ride.
Also in Animal Kingdom, we’ll say goodbye to It’s Tough to be A Bug in the Tree of Life! It’ll be replaced with a Zootopia themed show called Zootopia: Better Zoogether! We’re really looking forward to this new attraction — while some of our team will miss this nostalgic show, others are happy to see it and its scary animatronics and frightening bug features go away for good.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all the latest Disney World news as it happens this year, so stay tuned to DFB!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME ???

Glad I went to WDW last year. It was my 23rd time going. It was also my last time going. WDW corp. has destroyed Walt’s dream and has turned this magic land into a typical amusement park. From now on – its Disneyland international parks. Other countries are keeping Walt’s dream and that’s where my money will go.

We were at MK yesterday, the last day for the Sorcerer’s Passholders to visit WDW in 2025. Although crowded, the guests were remarkable. Everyone was in the Christmas Spirit, polite and kind to one another.
As we walked in The Magic Kingdom, I took note of the main window above the train station. It read, “Walt Disney World Railroad Office – Keeping Dreams on Track – Walter E. Disney – Chief Engineer.” In light of some of the park changes being contemplated in 2025 and beyond, I want Bob Iger and Josh D’Amaro to reflect upon the railroad office window. Walt Disney was, is, and will always be the Chief Engineer! Seriously take in Guest feedback and think again about Walt’s Legacy and some of the changes you want to make.

I am more saddened about Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom closing then anything else because It was based off the movie Dinosaur.

I remember when Josh D first came to DW. I was really excited to see what he would do for us. I remember seeing him walking around Disney Springs and waiting in line at GOTG. I thought, wow this guy is really hands on. We’re so lucky to have him.
I was soooooooo wrong.

I have regularly travelled across the pond to stay at WDW for holidays of two weeks at a time. I am now considering ending this relationship. Mucking around with Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island is a step too far for me. I might as well go to Universal Studios (which is perhaps where my money will go). Big mistakes Disney!
Nikki Rice says
Agree with all of the comments made, Disney doesn’t feel magical anymore, it’s squeezing every penny out of loyal customers upselling EVERYTHING possible and taking every bit of nostalgia with it. Unless you are willing to re-mortgage or sell a kidney it’s outpricing most of its loyal fan base
Previously Universal has never been a major competitor for me and my family, we were Disney die hards, but that has definitely changed and we will be heading to the to Universal for our next family holiday!

I’m assuming there is no set date for when It’s Tough To Be a Bug will close other than 2025 speculation?
DFB Gigi says
Hi Liz! You are correct. All the information we have been given is that it will close, but no exact date has been announced.

Will they give a close date for muppet 3d vision well in advance of closing it for good??
