Boomers have surely seen some changes to Disney World over the years.
Just think of how much has changed in the last 10 years alone. You have to use the MyDisney App for basically everything and Lightning Lanes and Mobile Orders are everyday lingo for Disney adults. So what was one perk that Boomers would remember that most of us have forgotten or maybe never heard of?
Tables in Wonderland was a Walt Disney World discount dining program that was open to Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club members, and Florida Residents. The membership provided a 20% discount on food and beverages (including alcohol) at over 100 restaurants and lounges in Walt Disney World parks and hotels.
While this sounds amazing, unfortunately, all Tables in Wonderland cards expired as of September 1, 2021. So how much did this cost? The cost for a Tables in Wonderland membership was $175 per year for Florida residents and $150 per year for Disney Vacation Club members, and Annual/Seasonal Passholders.
In addition to the 20% discount on food and beverages, membership included:
- Complimentary resort/hotel parking (including valet parking) when dining in a restaurant at that resort. Note: Complimentary parking requires a valid dining receipt.
- Reimbursement for theme park parking when dining in a theme park restaurant. Note: Pay for parking at the toll booth. Present a valid dining receipt at the guest relations booth after dinner to receive a refund (if it’s been less than 3 hours). After 5PM, just show your membership card at the toll booth.
- Invitations to special member-only events, like the Contemporary Resort’s Chef’s Table Experience, Culinary Adventures with the Chefs of Disney, and others.
- Tables in Wonderland was valid for one year from date of purchase.
It was worth it if you frequented the gates of Disney World often and it could have helped you save money after just a few meals. That’s all fine and dandy, sure, but there were extra hidden fees. 18% gratuity was added to parties of all sizes at table service restaurants. (Not at quick-service locations, though!) And if you lost your card? That’s a $50 replacement fee.
It’s been 3 years since this perk expired and we’re not sure there are any signs of it coming back just yet. But, we know around here to never say never. It felt like the Dining Plan took a while to come back so maybe there is still hope!
