Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk in California will be closed today, January 8th.
The closure is due to extreme winds and fires impacting Southern California.
According to ABC 7 News, extreme winds and fires are sweeping through Southern California. Fires are affecting the Pacific Palisades, a Los Angeles coastal neighborhood, the Eaton Canyon area, and the Sylmar area. The winds could reach 80 mph with gusts up to 100 mph in the mountains and foothills.
Winds this powerful are raising the risk of wildfires, and the fires that have erupted have caused mandatory evacuations in some areas. As Los Angeles and more of Southern California monitor the situation, Universal Studios Hollywood has made the decision to close its theme park and CityWalk. In a post on X, the resort stated they “will continue to assess the situation and expect to open for business tomorrow [Thursday, January 9th]. The safety of our team members and our guests is our top priority.”
