Disney Cruise Line is a fantastic choice of vacation for people who aren’t as big on the hustle and bustle of a regular Disney Parks day.
Suppose you’d rather trade in running around the parks, booking Lightning Lanes, trying to make dining reservations, and potentially stressing about getting from one place to another for relaxing next to the pool all day, exploring Castaway Cay or Lighthouse Point, dining on whatever you’d like whenever you’d like, and knowing your kids can have a great (and safe!) time at the kids’ clubs. In that case, a Disney Cruise Line vacation would be perfect for you! However, we have to admit that there are a few downsides to cruising at times, and this reason right here is why we can’t have nice things.
One of the lounges on Disney Cruise Line’s latest ship is the Scat Cat Lounge. This swanky, snazzy lounge is themed around the 1970s classic film The Aristocats. You’ll find that theming reflected through small details like a door handle modeled after Scat Cat’s “signature instrument” at the entrance and hidden depictions of Roquefort, “the devoted mouse companion of Duchess and her kittens.”
While there are many different drinks you can grab at this lounge, only one of them will get you a souvenir cup to take home. The catch? The drink, the Cat’s Meow, costs you $130! Yes, that includes the cup you get to take home, but we found ourselves asking WHY this drink was so expensive.
The Cat’s Meow is made with Angel’s Envy, Amaro Montenegro, Apero, and Lemon and is served in the embossed cat glass (which is a little creepy, we won’t lie, but hey, it’s still cool). The reason it’s so expensive though is due to an unfortunate reason — stealing.
On other Disney Cruise Line ships, such as the Disney Wish, you’ll find a lounge called Nightingale’s. The signature cocktail at this lounge is called the Sweet Nightingale for $20. It’s made with Hendricks Amazonia, Passion Fruit, Rosemary, and Mint, but the real draw here is that it’s served in an adorable dainty glass that looks like a bird!
The problem? Well, people like the glass so much that they’ve started STEALING it from the restaurant! Since the ship can’t go around searching everyone’s luggage to find the missing glasses or watch back every single security tape to find who took it, they’ve decided to make the specialty drink on the Treasure served in a cool glass so expensive so that the glass is included in the price.
You may be asking, “why don’t they just offer one price with the glass and one without?” Unfortunately, there are people out there who will pay the cheaper price and then find a way to steal the glass anyway, so Disney figured they’d stop all potentiality of stealing and just include the price of the glass in the overall total.
