NEWS: Sudden Construction Walls Have Appeared in Magic Kingdom

BIG changes have hit Magic Kingdom’s flagship merchandise store and we’ve got the photos to prove it!

There’s nothing like coming home from your Disney World trip with a bag full of new souvenirs. But, if you’re heading to Magic Kingdom soon, it might be a little bit harder for you to shop ’till you drop like you normally would. The Emporium is currently undergoing construction, leaving a large portion of this store unavailable.

Greetings from Magic Kingdom, where we’re investigating the sudden closure of part of the Emporium — the flagship merchandise store at this park. Construction walls have gone up around certain areas of the store in order to make some updates. Typically, the Emporium is one large, connected store divided into different sections depending on the type of merchandise. But now, that has changed!

This design allows energy and people to flow freely from one end of the store to the other without interruption. You are missing the back section of the last room, but thanks to the design and color palette of the walls, it doesn’t feel like you’re boxed in or like anything is missing.

Still able to walk through

A Cast Member told us that tomorrow they’ll be adding a trim to the top of the walls, which should help blend everything together even more during this construction. Luckily, Disney has done a good job at keeping this store functioning as a retail space (you still have access to the registers) without feeling confusing or constricting, and how it manages to preserve the charm of a store we’ve always known and loved. It might even hint at what we can expect from the future color palette!

Merchandise can still be shopped

We’re not sure exactly how long this new “normal” for the Emporium will last, but we’ll keep an eye on the store for updates. We’re in the parks every single day, so we’ll keep you updated on everything you need to know.
