In October 2024, Disney launched a pricey new Lightning Lane service option — but there’s one BIG perk that’s missing!
Want to cut down on your wait times on your next Disney World vacation? Disney offers several add-on options that allow guests to access shorter “Lightning Lanes” for select attractions in the parks. But the most expensive Lightning Lane option is missing one HUGE benefit that might make you second guess the hefty price tag!
First, let’s take a quick look at the three types of Lightning Lane services that are available.
The Lightning Lane Single Pass is essentially a pay-per-ride service where guests pay a fee to utilize the Lightning Lane for an individual, in-demand attraction. This is only an option at 1-2 of the most popular attractions per park, and the pricing varies by date and attraction.
The Lightning Lane Multi Pass service lets you bypass standby lines and enter the Lightning Lane at multiple select attractions. Guests can make up to 3 Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections in advance of their visit, and they can continue to make more after the initial selections are used, holding up to 3 Lighting Lane Multi Pass selections at a time. Pricing for this service also varies, but it tends to be between $15-$35 depending on the date and park.
While the Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass services have been around for a while, on October 30th, 2024, Disney introduced a third, all-inclusive option called the Lightning Lane Premier Pass. This add-on is available for guests staying at select Disney hotels and includes one-time entry into EVERY Lightning Lane eligible attraction in a given park for one price, eliminating the need to monitor availability and make new Lighting Lane reservations throughout the day.
Sounds nice right?? Well, there are a few more details you might want to know before you click that purchase button! First, the Lightning Lane Premier Pass is EXPENSIVE. Pricing varies by day and park, but we’ve seen prices as high as $449 per person per day at Magic Kingdom.
And even with that high price tag, there’s still one major perk that’s missing — there are currently no Lightning Lanes offered for any character meet-and-greets, even with the Premier Pass!
The wait times to meet the characters can get pretty high, especially for fan favorites, so if seeing them is your highest priority, beware that shelling out the big bucks for a Lightning Lane Premier Pass won’t help you on that front!
If you aren’t big on meeting the characters and prefer to stick to the rides and shows, then the Lightning Lane Premier Pass could still be a good option for you if you’ve got the money to splurge in your budget. But if your top priority is meeting as many characters as you can, you may want to put that money towards booking character dining experiences where you can meet multiple characters all while enjoying a meal!
You can find character dining restaurants in each of the parks — and several hotels — including popular spots like Cinderella’s Royal Table, Garden Grill, ‘Ohana, and Chef Mickey’s, to name a few. Just be sure to make your reservations early, because character dining can fill up fast!
