A new land is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios — and we’re pretty excited about it!
That land will be themed around Disney’s Monsters, Inc. movies and TV show, and will finally bring Monstropolis to life in a new way. It will even include a brand new attraction — one we’ve been waiting FOREVER FOR — that will put us INSIDE that thrilling doors chase sequence from the first Monsters, Inc. movie. WE ARE SO THERE. Well, Disney just dropped some brand new details about what it’s doing in preparation for that land’s arrival.
Disney previously revealed that the Monsters, Inc. land will take over Muppets Courtyard in Hollywood Studios. Disney just announced, though, that a phased closure of the Grand Avenue area will begin in May. The last day you’ll be able to dine at Mama Melrose’s will be on May 10th. Following that, Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo will close on June 7th. On June 8th, the Muppets Courtyard will be completely walled off and closed.
However, the Muppets will move over to Sunset Boulevard to take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Disney did not give a closing timeline for that ride but stated, “There’s still enough time to catch a super-stretch limo to the Forum to enjoy Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith.”
Don’t worry, Muppet*Vision 3D fans, though, Disney said it is having “creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.” So Muppet*Vision 3D may come back in some way (we still have HOPE).
As previously noted, the new Monsters, Inc. land will feature the previously-mentioned doors-based ride, which will be Disney’s first suspended roller coaster. We previously got to see a 3D model of this ride, and it looks pretty amazing.
Disney has also told us about a new SHOW coming to the land.
We’ll be counting down the days until the new land opens, even if it is replacing Muppets Courtyard and sending the Muppets over to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Oh, well, that’s progress, right?
Stay tuned to DFB for more.
