Are you planning to set sail on a Disney Cruise Line ship in the future?
If so, you’re probably super excited about your cruise vacation, which will include all kinds of fun entertainment, things to do, eating (we LOVE rotational dining on Disney Cruises), and visiting Disney’s private islands and beaches (if that’s part of your cruise itinerary). But, did you know that when it comes to packing for your cruise, there is a lengthy list of things you can’t bring with you? Here’s the thing: you might even be surprised at what will get confiscated if you pack it.
So before you go on your cruise, it’s always a good idea to go over the rules for Disney Cruise Line. Now, Disney Cruise Line has a long list of prohibited items that you can look over here. However, we’re going to point out some that you may actually not know about and that you could potentially bring, only to have it confiscated. We just want to point out that something you may be able to bring to your Disney World hotel could potentially be prohibited on a Disney Cruise.
Alcohol Policy
First off, you need to know the rules for bringing alcohol onto a cruise ship. First, you cannot pack alcohol in your checked baggage. None, nope. Not at all — Disney will confiscate and not refund you for the loss. If you DO bring alcohol on board, it must be in your carry-on.
Likewise, any alcohol you bring on board must be in its original unopened container. Any wine in excess of two bottles or beer in excess of 6 beers is prohibited and you’ll have to throw it away before you’re allowed on the ship.
3 IMPORTANT Things to Request on the First Day of Your Disney Cruise
Appliances, Electrical Items, and Electronics
You also need to be aware that there are certain appliances, electrical items, and electronics that are not allowed on the ship. This includes bottle sterilizers and warmers — if you’re bringing a baby with you, you can find a limited number of approved bottle warmers and sterilizers available upon request through Guest Services.
You are also not allowed to have heating pads, so if you normally travel with a heating pad, leave it at home. One thing that may surprise you that is prohibited is extension cords, power strips, multi-plugs, and surge protectors. Yes, you can bring those to a Disney World hotel, but you can’t bring them on a cruise. Also, if you have any remote-controlled devices, leave them at home — this includes droids, even if you bought them at a Disney Park.
If you’re traveling for a special occasion and want to decorate your room, do not bring seasonal or strands of celebratory lightbulbs. These are not allowed on the ship.
Why We Can’t Have Nice Things On Disney Cruise Line
Household and Sports Equipment
For some strange reason, you also can’t bring music instruments onboard a Disney Cruise ship. So if you want to play guitar and have a singalong in your room…well, you can’t. We’re not sure why this rule exists, but we’re sure Disney has a reason. If you really want to hear live music, you should probably just check out some of the onboard entertainment.
You also are prohibited from bring most sports equipment, so leave all of that at home. Some exceptions include golf clubs, but they must stored in your room and only used in ports of call. Baseballs, basketballs, footballs, soccer balls and volleyballs can be brought onboard, but they, too, must remain in your room and only used in ports of call.
So one thing a lot of folks want to bring on their cruises or items that hang over-the-door, like makeup organizers and the like. However, you are not allowed to bring over-the-door hangers or over-the-door hooks on your cruise.
