LEGOLAND Florida sent a message to its employees informing staff that mass layoffs are on the horizon.

NBC News affiliate WFLA reported that Merlin Entertainment, the company that owns and operates LEGOLAND Florida, is eliminating 234 positions. The notice was sent on January 24th, 2025.
The positions set to be cut include entertainment performers and the “Head of Resort Quality,” per WFLA. Of the 234 positions LEGOLAND is eliminating, 64% are entertainment performers. Another 23 soon-to-be eliminated positions include entertainment technicians, and five are team leaders.

The 234 layoffs will start on March 25th and continue through April 7th, 2025. WFLA reported that “the layoffs will be permanent.” Further, unlike the entertainment Cast Members at Disney World, the LEGOLAND entertainment performers are not represented by a union.

In a statement to WFLA, LEGOLAND said, in part, “At LEGOLAND Florida Resort we are making operational changes to help us elevate the guest experience in 2025 and beyond,” adding, “The decision to reduce the size of our entertainment team was undoubtedly difficult, but these changes will allow the Resort to operate more flexibly and responsively in a competitive market.”

LEGOLAND Florida has over 50 rides, shows, and attractions. The resort also has a water park with 14 water slides and three hotels. Currently, LEGOLAND has a variety of character experiences at Fun Town, where you can “Take a photo with one of your favorite characters from the 4D movies,” and LEGO NINJAGO World, which hosts LEGO NINJAGO characters throughout the day. The park also has a live show and several 4D theater shows. It’s unclear which, if any, of these entertainment offerings will be impacted by the layoffs.
