Most Disney World restaurants and attractions have reopened after the 2020 closures, but if you look closely, there are still some that have yet to come back, and we don’t know if they ever will.
Tables in Wonderland hasn’t made a reappearance, Restaurant Marrakesh in EPCOT has been closed for so long we don’t know if it’ll ever return, and of course, we can’t forget about the elegant tea service that used to be offered at the Garden View Tea Room at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. But now that Disney has a new tea service, will we ever see it return?
The Garden View Tea Room served British-style Afternoon Tea packages daily and offered beautiful views of the garden while you dined. It was offered from 12-4 PM each day and advance dining reservations were highly recommended.
At the time of its closure, there were two services offered here — the Afternoon Tea and the Perfectly Princess Tea Party. While the Afternoon Tea was geared towards adults and older kids, the Perfectly Princess Tea Party was tons of fun for younger kids. It was led by “Rose Petal,” a magical rose from Princess Aurora’s garden who has come alive, and the tea party was complete with stories, songs, a princess parade, and even a visit from Sleeping Beauty herself.
Now, the pricing for this Perfectly Princess Tea Party was FAR from cheap. At the time of its closure, prices were as follows, but keep in mind that kids aged 3-9 were given a plethora of gifts to keep as part of the experience that included things like a doll, a tiara, a princess cinch bag, and so much more:
- One adult guests and one child (age 3 to 9) : $333.64
- Additional child (age 3 to 9): $234.08
- Additional guest (age 10+): $98.66
Now, as for the Garden View Tea Room experience, this is what a lot of Disney World goers are missing a little more heavily. There were multiple different tea services to choose from, which we loved, including a Mrs. Potts’ tea option for kiddos!
Pricing for these packages were per person (with the exception of the Berkshire Package for $150) and ranged from about $35 for $50 (with the Mrs. Potts’ Tea option at $23.79). Each one also came with a fantastic selection of small bites and eats to enjoy while you had tea.
This was an extremely popular option, so why haven’t we seen it return? Well, that’s very likely due to the fact that The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers is now open at Disney’s BoardWalk. The Cake Bake Shop is a more expensive dining option that’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as a Tea Service.
The Roses of Gold Afternoon Tea is offered every day at The Cake Bake Shop and is $95 for adults and $65 for children nine and under. Whew! That’s quite the price difference! Now, this service also comes with lots of little sandwiches and sweets to snack on while you try all the different teas you’d like to, and we were thoroughly impressed by this service, but it’s not for everyone.

So, with all that being said, do we think the Garden View Tea Room could make a comeback? Well, we can’t say for sure, but we’re going to lean towards no, UNLESS Disney wants to bring back a tea service that they solely own and operate. If that’s the case, then we expect to see prices very similar to The Cake Bake Shop, or just slightly under to increase competition.
However, Disney could also be sitting here saying that they won’t open up a service that’s already available, and is relatively niche to begin with. We’ll just have to wait and see what fate will befall this gorgeous location at the Grand Floridian, so stay tuned to DFB for all the latest news!

The Cake Bake Tea was perfectly fine but I much prefer (and miss) The Garden View Tea. The options and value for price paid was better at the GF venue.
Our first experience at Garden View was 1992. We went every visit since. The last being December 2019. Not knowing the disaster Covid was about to bring. We miss it so much and ask CMs every time we eat at the other restaurants in GF hotel. They miss it too!
I don’t think the Cake Bake Shops afternoon tea is the reason the Garden View tea hasn’t returned. It took nearly 5 years for the Cake Bake to open and if Disney had been interested in returning a tea service they certainly could’ve during that time. Current management simply doesn’t feel this is enough return on investment to bring it back. Which is too bad! I had always wanted to do this with my daughter and just didn’t get to stay at the Grand before the pandemic. Perhaps someday they will see the value again but I wouldn’t hold my breath
