We need to talk about Muppet*Vision 3D.
For years, this show has been such an underrated gem tucked away in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but with all the changes happening around it, we can’t ignore the fact that its future is looking pretty grim. That’s why we wanted to share our thoughts on what Disney should actually do with Muppet*Vision 3D instead of letting it close down forever. Let’s break it down.
The Disney+ Option
Listen, we get it. There have been classic Disney attractions that have found a second life on Disney+, and in theory, MuppetVision 3D could follow that path. But there’s one major issue: the 3D. Unless you’re one of the few people who still have a 3D television and a working set of 3D glasses at home (respect), the experience just wouldn’t hit the same.
Now, to be fair, a flat, non-3D version could work, but it would strip away a huge part of what makes the show so unique. If this were the only way to save MuppetVision, we’d begrudgingly accept it. Maybe Disney could film a special version that captures some of the in-theater effects so home viewers don’t miss out entirely.
A Relocation Besides the Newly Re-themed Muppets Coaster
Now, let’s talk about the Muppets re-theme of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. If Disney is going all-in on this Muppet re-theme, why not move Muppet*Vision 3D closer to its new thrill ride sibling?
A simple theater setup near the coaster’s entrance could keep the show alive while giving guests a full Muppets experience in one concentrated area. Sure, it might not have all the in-theater effects of its current home, but at least it wouldn’t be disappearing into the Disney archives forever.
Speaking of the coaster, can we PLEASE talk about the most important part of all this? If Disney is going to put in all the effort of making a Muppets coaster, Statler and Waldorf must be involved. Imagine them heckling riders from their balcony as they launch into the ride, or even better, replacing Aerosmith entirely in the preshow.
Picture it: Instead of Steven Tyler handing out backstage passes, Statler and Waldorf are roasting guests while “prepping them” for the wildest ride of their lives. We would be seated for that.
The Ultimate Dream: Muppets and Monsters?
Okay, now for our slightly unhinged dream scenario. Hear us out here. What if Disney just left it where it is and gave it a light re-theme? A crossover show featuring the Muppets and the monsters could be pure chaos in the best way possible.
Imagine Fozzie trying to do stand-up for Roz, or Gonzo and Mike Wazowski arguing over who’s the better performer. It could be a match made in comedy heaven, and let’s be honest, the Muppets are already known for their ridiculous crossovers.
At the end of the day, Muppet*Vision 3D deserves better than to be quietly swept away in the ever-changing landscape of Hollywood Studios. Whether it gets a new home near the Muppets coaster, a re-imagined version for Disney+, or even a completely unhinged Muppets/Monsters mash-up, one thing is clear: Disney needs to make sure this show lives on. And yes, we say this with our whole chest.

move Muppet 3D to Imagination theater on a rotation showing. It already has the 3D capabilities
Placing Muppets 3-D in the theater next to Rock & Roller Coaster makes perfect sense from a theming standpoint, but I would suggest BEFORE going thru all that time & expense to convert that theater into a 3-D one ….. that Disney & the Henson Company create a BRAND NEW movie?! We all love Muppets 3-D, but lets me frank here …. its old. Really old. How about a NEW Muppets movie, Mr. Iger?! Then, just like with Soarin’ …. EVERY once in a while, Disney could swap out the new movie for the original one on a limited time basis? This way, we get a new movie, while the old one is not permanently relegated to the history books.
Brilliant, right?
Otherwise, I would suggest that Muppets 3-D (old, new or both) move into the Magic Eye Theatre, which is already configured to be a 3-D theater, to the Imagination Pavilion at Epcot. It would be a way of having the Muppets represented in another park, while adding a beloved attraction to Epcot.
Just a thought…how about move the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor to the Muppets 3D theatre (theatre already in place with a slight re-themeing) then take the Muppets 3D and put it in the Laugh Floor theatre and re-theme the movie to Pigs in Space. Fits the Tomorrowland theme while utilizing the theatre that will be emptied by the move of the Laugh Floor.
I agree with the previous posters- move the Muppets to the Magic Eye theater, which already has 3D capabilities. Remodel the theater to the Muppets specifications and change the end of the movie to blow a hole in the Imagination Pavilion and have Figment pop through. Perfect.
This show is a gem and I go to it every time I am at Disney World. Move the theatre with all it’s elements to near the Eocking Roller Coaster STARRING the Muppets.
How about rethemeing the area around the new Mayhem Rocking Rollercoaster to the Muppet courtyard with a new Rizzo’s pizza, Gonzo’s rest rooms, a combo Muppet gift shop and a new Muppet Theater designed to accommodate Live Muppet performances in addition to the 3D presentations.
