One of our favorite things about Disney is the free transportation from Disney Resorts to the theme parks. We use them all the time!
Because we use them all the time, we have to deal with many bus “icks”, and this one drives us crazy!
Beware of this issue when using bus transportation! You might find many people don’t form lines when getting onto the bus!
Traditionally, the bus drivers will load those with mobility devices into the bus first from the middle door and then have everyone else enter through the door in the front.
If you’ve ever waited for the bus at the resort, there are a few benches but a big open space, versus the bus stations at resorts, which have stanchions for guests to line up in. We love it when there’s a queue, so the first to arrive get on the bus the soonest, securing those desired seats.
Entering from the resorts, typically a line doesn’t form, so it’s a bit chaotic when entering! Just like the “gate lice” that crowd an airport gate long before their boarding group is called, we have experienced “bus lice” who crowd around the doors of Disney buses before it’s time to get on board. You might have been the first to the stop, so you decide to wait on the bench, and when your bus comes, everyone runs in front.
So, if you’re heading onto the bus, try to let those who have obviously been waiting a while on first, but also take a step back and try to get a line to form. It helps everyone load more quickly and comfortably. Also, be aware that you might not board in the order that you came. Stay patient! Disney is great with its transportation and tries to fit as many people as it can.

What’s one of your Disney “icks?” Let us know in the comments!
At 78, I use an ECV and it’s very pleasant to board first, along with the rest of my party. At the Contemporary, where there is one boarding area for all of the busses, I park in the designated handicapped rectangle and, when a bus approaches, I signal the driver with a “thumbs up” or a “wave off” so (s)he knows whether or not I’m boarding this particular bus. Several drivers have thanked me for the information.
Perhaps Disney could put down tape, much like they do for traffic control during park parades. Guests are used to this and might form queues even when there are no stanchions. There will always be “bus lice,” just like there are those who will send one person to hold a space in an attraction line and then invade with the other dozen in their party. Some nationalities even have a reputation for this rude behavior.
