Remember me…well, if you’ve been singing that song non-stop (and probably crying like we’ve been), you’ve problably been wondering what the future of Coco is for Disney.
Now, we’ve already been promised a new Coco ride for Disney California Adventure, but with the movie having been such a hit, all the news we’ve had about a potential sequel to the movie are rumors. Well, Disney has finally confirmed that a Coco sequel IS FINALLY HAPPENING. However, here’s the bad news — it’s not set to release until 2029 (!!!).
Yes, Disney held its Shareholder Meeting today and just decided to casually mention that Coco 2 is in the works at Pixar. Then the company took to social media to announced that the second Coco movie wouldn’t release until 2029. OUCH. It’s a good news/bad news kind of situation, but the thing to remember here is that it that a sequel IS happening and you’re not Poco Loco.
UPDATE: Disney has since removed the year “2029” from all posts and press releases about Coco 2. We’ll be on the lookout for more updates.
The Coco sequel will reunite the team who worked on the original movie, including director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina. Mark Nielsen will produce.
Based on this news, we’re guessing we’ll probably see the Coco ride in Disney California Adventure well before the new movie comes out, but it is what it is. It’s officially happening, though, and in 2029, we’ll be reunited with Miguel, Dante, and the rest of the Rivera family.
If you still need to get your Coco fix, though, don’t forget that there’s a Coco dining experience onboard the Disney Treasure, so now might be a good time to book a Disney Cruise.

Interesting. How are they going to do the story? Coco was the grandmother and she passed into the Land of the Dead so how are they going to talk about her in this movie?
