Some Disney ride closures just hit harder than others.
A few months ago, Disney fans were mourning the loss of DINOSAUR in Animal Kingdom, and that created a massive hullabaloo. But you know what deserves even more of a sendoff? Aquatopia is closing at Tokyo DisneySea, and we are distraught!
Aquatopia is a die-hard favorite of our fearless leader at Disney Food Blog, AJ. For her, it’s a must-do ride every visit, and when she found out that it would be closing permanently on September 14th, 2026, she said, and I quote, “this is basically the worst news ever.”
She told our team that this was “literally the best ride in the world” and that Disney announcing its closure was “basically on a par with them announcing a PeopleMover closure.” (No one freak out, it was JUST a metaphor! PeopleMover is completely fine, guys.) You know what? She might have a point. This is a truly original Disney ride that takes you on whirling, spinning, unpredictable movements through the water. It’s fun, it’s whimsical, and it was only the second Disney attraction ever to use a trackless ride system.
The regular version of the ride will be open for the last time from April 22nd-June 30th. After that, it will become the Aquatopia “Get Soaked” Version for the remainder of its tenure, in conjunction with Summer Cool-off at Tokyo Disney Resort. Is it too late to plan a last-minute trip to do it again? Honestly, we wouldn’t judge you if you did.
Bye, bye Aquatopia. We’ll miss you dearly, and the laughter you gave us will live on in our memories. To commemorate this loss, we hope you enjoy this photo from the time AJ did a full-scale chicken nugget photo shoot onboard the ride. The life of a Disney food blogger. RIP Aquatopia.

I am not distraught over this attraction. The only way I will ever be in Japan is if I win a trip on Wheel of Fortune.
This broke my heart when I read the news. We’ve been to TDR twice and are planning another this fall, but it will be too late as we’re going in October. It truly is an incredibly fun ride. It’s a shame they can’t/won’t move it to another location in the park. Or ship it to another Disney park.
I’ve been to Tokyo Disney 6 times in the past 14 years and have always enjoyed Aquatopia. It’s such a unique ride. Sure, it’s not at technically amazing or thrilling as some others, but I always enjoyed the chaos and fun this ride provided. I’m glad my wife and I got to get one last ride on it in 2025, and am sad to see it go.
Oh I’m sorry AJ 🙁 It’s how I feel about us losing the The Liberty Belle Riverboat.
