Are you craving a ride on your favorite attractions at Disney World, but you’ve been seeing a “closed for refurbishment” sign? Your time to ride might be coming soon!
Disney World usually offers previews to give select groups an early chance to ride the attraction, and to give the ride’s Cast Members opportunities to practice procedures (and to make sure everything is fully operational for hours at a time). Well, we got word of new previews coming soon.
Cast Member previews are opening Soarin’ Across America and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. On May 6th, eligible Cast Members will be able to register for preview spots, which means Disney is just about ready to open the rides.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets and Soarin’ Across America will open to the public on May 26th, so if you aren’t able to secure a preview, don’t worry, your time is coming in less than one month.
For Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Disney said that there will be previews for “Cast Members, eligible Disney Vacation Members, and Annual Passholders.” Disney hasn’t confirmed when those previews for DVC Members and Annual Passholders will be available, but we wouldn’t be surprised if we hear more about them soon, given the opening date is so close. You’ll want to keep an eye on your email and Passholder Buzz on the Disney World app.
If you’re part of these select groups and want to ride as soon as possible, Disney might do a soft opening after previews end but before the ride is officially open. We recently saw this with Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom, where it was open to guests who just happened to be in Magic Kingdom during those days. For those who are already going to be in the parks, it’s not a bad idea to walk by the attraction to see what’s happening, but this is never guaranteed — actually, even if you signed up for a preview slot, it doesn’t guarantee anything!
Since the previews are to make sure the rides are working, sometimes rides shut down due to technical issues, and you might not be able to ride. This happened a lot during Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opening in Magic Kingdom, but for Buzz Lightyear, it was mostly under control. It’s typically not something to worry yourself about, but a nice thing to know that it’s possible.

I’m leery of these “refurbishments”. Waited in line for quite a while after Buzz Lightyear”s opening at MK, and it seemed liked the exact ride /visuals to me. My wife didn’t notice anything different as well (other than the lazer guns). What a disappointment.
I’m most excited for Soarin’.
