Disney leadership is about to change again.

Jeff Vahle
2026 has been a big year for the Walt Disney Company thanks to major CEO and management changes. Now, another big change has been announced, and Walt Disney World will be saying goodbye to a major force.
Walt Disney World president Jeff Vahle has formally announced his retirement. Vahle, who has been with the company for 36 years, confirmed he will retire this summer on LinkedIn.

In his post, he wrote, “I started my career as an engineer at Magic Kingdom, and I’m wrapping it up with the best job ever, leading Walt Disney World into a period of remarkable growth in partnership with our incredible Cast Members and community.” He confirmed he will stay in the position through late July. This announcement was definitely unexpected, and while there are typically rumors of leadership changing, this one was entirely out of left field.

This also comes after Josh D’Amaro became Chief Executive Officer of the Walt Disney World company after Bob Iger stepped into retirement. Disney had announced that Iger would be retiring, and we knew D’Amaro was in the running. He officially took the position in March 2026. With this change, Thomas Mazloum moved into the Chairman of Disney Experiences as D’Amaro took over as CEO, so this could be some of the forward momentum of shifts in leadership.
Disney later announced that Joe Schott has been appointed President of Walt Disney World Resort. Schott has more than 40 years of leadership across world-renowned destinations in Asia, Europe, and beyond. He recently served as President of Disney Signature Experiences, where he oversaw the launches of two new ships, the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure. Before that, he led Shanghai Disney Resort through a major expansion phase, including the opening of the Zootopia-themed land.

This change could mean major changes on the horizon. With leadership changes, we’ve seen certain projects come and go, and with all the changes coming to Disney World within the next few years, we’ll be keeping an eye on changes, updates, and how they affect the guest experiences in Disney World.
Vahle noted the exciting things still to come this summer, like Cool Kids Summer, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets, and updates coming to Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run, which will all take place before he retires. Vahle has been in the role since 2020.

During his time in the position, he has overseen roughly 80,000 cast members across the four theme parks, more than 25 resort hotels, two water parks, and much more. Over the last 6 years, he has also helped to spearhead new projects like Zootopia: Better Zoogether, the reimagining of Test Track, Tianaʼs Bayou Adventure, Country Bear Musical Jamboree, Journey of Water, TRON Lightcycle / Run, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and two new nighttime shows at both Magic Kingdom and EPCOT.

He has also been on the teams developing new projects like Piston Peak, Villains Land, Monsters Inc. Land, and more. He ended his post, reminding followers that this is a very exciting time to be at Disney World and that he is “looking forward to being part of it in the months ahead.” Thank you for all of your years of service, Jeff!
