Mickey Beignets from the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square are always a special treat! That messy bag of powdered sugar Mickey shaped goodness is one of my favorite snacks to enjoy while visiting Disneyland.
And for Halloween Time, The Mint Julep Bar has welcomed back Pumpkin Beignets! The beignets are sold in 3 or 6 piece bags and can be washed down with a Pumpkin Spice Latte. A perfect Fall treat!
I don’t know if the recipe has changed, but I feel like over the past few years, the beignets were not so pumpkin-y tasting. This year though, the pumpkin flavor was much more prevalent. I ordered a bag of 3 to share with a friend.
The beignets are made fresh to order, so sometimes there is a bit of a wait. (They’re actually better when they’re fresh, fresh, fresh.) Don’t let the line scare you away, they are worth it!
If you aren’t familiar with beignets, they’re a light and airy French Pastry. Similar to a donut but not as dense.
After taking a bite, I immediately noticed they were much more flavorful in the “pumpkin” department, they’re also more orange in color than last year.
In general, I think that I still prefer the regular beignets over any specialty flavors, but I do think these are delicious and definitely worth a try. I love the ambiance of the French Market, and sitting there people-watching while enjoying beignets is always worth my time!
PRO TIP: To stay somewhat clean but still enjoy the extra powdered sugar dips in between bites, tear the top of your bag off so that the powdered sugar is more easily accessible. If you already do this, consider yourself a beignet pro!
The Mint Julep Bar is also one of the spots where you can get the special Halloween Time Maleficent Sipper and the Jack Skellington Glow Cube.
The sipper is $10.19 with a fountain beverage or $13.29 with the Raspberry Magnolia Lemonade, which I haven’t had the chance to try. The Maleficent Sipper is also available at Ship to Shore (across from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad), and at the Royal Street Veranda. In Disney California Adventure, you can find it at Award Wieners.
The Jack Skellington Glow Cube is a $4.00 add on to any drink.
He’s pretty awesome, and you can take him home to use again and again!

I’ve never had a beignet, but I’d sure like to try one, maybe someday at the New Orleans resort.

Heather, if I thought they would stay fresh, I’d beg/pay/beg some more for you to ship me some overnight! 🙂 I am very envious of the west coast whenever a °O° beignet picture pops up!

I was just at Disneyland for the first time last week and it was great! On Sunday, I was one of the first groups in line for beignets and coffee in the morning. My group ordered 3 regular and 3 pumpkin beignets, and the cast member gave us the discounted price for 6 beignets as a mixed bag order. Both kinds were great! The pumpkin was very spicy – cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, etc. – which I love! The regular ones were delicious, too. They were both hot out of the bag and full of powdered sugar. We didn’t learn the bag trick until we saw someone else doing it at a nearby table, but it’s a great technique. We utilized the torn bag idea when we ordered beignets again on Tuesday. They really are yummy and so much fun being Mickey shaped 🙂

The sipper is the same one from the Villians Sinister Soirée MNSSHP add on at Magic Kingdom. That one came with a poison apple glow cube.

@Jocelyn – It’s definitely a west coast perk!
@Katie – So glad you loved them! The torn bag tip is where it’s at!
@Randy – Cool! I love those poison apple glow cubes!

Cafe Orleans also serves the pumpkin beignets — I had them last week. Found them very light and delightfully spiced with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, etc. They are accompanied by the vanilla bean creme anglaise. Yummy! Needless to say, they did not last long. Going back Friday night for ‘Mickey’s Halloween Party’ and hope to enjoy them again.

@Deborah – Good to know! Thanks for sharing! I bet the creme makes a yummy accompaniment!
