We’re headed back to our “Best Thing I Ever Ate at Disney!” series today
I did a post a couple of weeks back titled The Five Best Things I Ate In Disneyland, which sparked a fun series based on the Food Network’s (very cool) show, The Best Thing I Ever Ate. Based on some keen suggestions from readers, we’ll be splitting our series up into different sections: breakfast, appetizers & side dishes, snacks, entrees (lunch and dinner), and desserts & drinks.
Today, let’s talk breakfast! I’ve done my favorite brand of informal polling (i.e. posted questions on twitter and facebook 😉 ) to find out others’ experiences of the Best Thing They Ever Ate for breakfast at Disney. I must say, the conclusions aren’t all that shocking, but they are delicious! Here’s what we’ve all come up with:
Mickey Waffles
Ah, the glorious little Mickey Waffle! I have no idea why these little guys taste as wonderful as they do, but it’s like melt-in-your-mouth happiness as soon as you bite into one (you think I’m being overly dramatic, but I promise, they’re delicious).

Luckily, you can get them all over Disney World (I have a partial list here) — book a breakfast buffet and you’re almost sure to see them. If you’d rather not deal with locking off time for a full meal, head to Sleepy Hollow in the Magic Kingdom to get a giant version!

Tonga Toast at Disney’s Polynesian Resort
This isn’t your standard stuffed french toast. Tonga Toast is basically a 2-inch thick piece of banana-stuffed, cinnamon-sugar coated, deep-fried goodness! You can find it at the Polynesian’s Kona Cafe as well as at Captain Cook’s downstairs!
Be sure to request strawberry compote and macadamia nut butter to go along with your toast!

Cinnamon Roll at Main Street Bakery
Finally, we arrive at the larger-than-life Cinnamon Roll at the Magic Kingdom’s Main Street Bakery! (I wish we had smell-o-blogging!) These cinnamon rolls seem to get bigger and bigger each time I’m in the bakery, and they’re definitely enough to share. We can only hope they return when the bakery re-opens from its Starbucks renovation.

There’s one important thing to remember, though — make sure you get the extra, added scoop of cream cheese frosting on top of your roll! That’s right, the Bakery actually has a vat of melty frosting that they use to top the ordered rolls going out on the plates. Now that’s a Disney difference…

Other Suggestions
Of course, while those were the most-recommended breakfast options, there were other stand-outs as well! Here are a few of the other “Best Thing I Ever Ate at Disney!” Breakfast suggestions:
- Beignets at Port Orleans French Quarter
- Chocolate danish and Cheese danish (Yes; it was that specific!)
- Date nut bread from the old Tangaroa Terrace at Disney’s Polynesian Resort

The Samoan at Kona Cafe! Best breakfast I have EVER had! It’s pulled pork hash topped witha poached egg and hollandaise. I could have died and went to heaven after the first bite!
I definatley will try the waffle. We ususally stay in the disney villas and yes I confess I bring my disney waffle maker and buy the disney waffle mix to make my own before heading to the park. The kids love them with fresh strawberries and blackberries on it. I have never had one in the park but now that I know i can get it at sleepy hallow without having to do a buffet (like chief mickey) I will defiantely check it out.
I LOVE the cheesy potatoe bake at the Norway princess breakfast. Yum!!

I ended up on your blog via Twitter. I now want to go to Disney specifically to try that Tonga toast. That looks like the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. I think my next Disney visit will be based around where the best food is!
Tonga Toast. I have a trip coming up in Dec and I plan to spend every single morning at Kona Cafe (even though I’m not staying at the Poly). I have even tried to make it at home. It *almost* was edible. But nowhere near the heavenly goodness that is found at the Poly. Not just the best Disney breakfast, but the best Disney meal. (PS: Don’t make the mistake of thinking The Rainforest Cafe’s Tonga Toast in AK is the same thing. It’s not. At all. It’s just French toast. )

I don’t always get to the Disney parks when I visit my aunt every year. However, right from the airport I head to Downtown Disney for lunch at Portobello Country Italian Trattoria. I order the Portobello Mushroom Appetizer. It is wood roasted with gorgonzola, polenta and a rosemary sauce. I order one for an appetizer and then one for my entree. Yes, it is THAT good!

Best thing I ever ate at Disney was the crispy pork chop and breakfast potatoes at Olivia’s in Old key West resort.
My mouth instantly waters anytime I think about it.

The best thing that I ever ate for breakfast in Disney World is the caramel apple stuffed french toast at Cinderella’s Royal Table in the Magic Kingdom. This cannot even be called breakfast, it is more like dessert! The apples and caramel are a perfect combination to the moist french toast with warm cream cheese in the middle. If you are a sweet lover, you cannot pass up this fabulous breakfast meal!
Tonga Toast is delicious though it seemed to be missing something that last time I had it.
The stacked Kouzzina breakfast at Kouzzina’s ( eggs, sweet potato hash, bacon or chicken sausage, olive toast and the artichoke spread is also fantastic.
I just got back from a trip to the west coast, DL, Star Wars half marathon weekend, and SFO, visit grand kids.
I have found a Disney breakfast to match Tonga Toast… French toast is the unassuming listing on the Tangaroa Terrace menu. 1 1/2 slices of thick bread covered in caramel sauce and fresh banana slices. The sauce is basically a simple caramelized sugar syrup that is spruced up with a secret ingredient, RUM! The only thing missing is a press-pot of Kona coffee.
You have to try the Banana Bread French Toast at Wilderness Lodge “Whispering Canyon”
It comes with a Banana Fosters Caramel Sauce to pour over the top of it and also includes a choice of bacon or sausage.
It is on the sweet side but the flavors are delicious and it its perfect portion to eat. If you are really really hungry then go for the All you care to eat plate, but otherwise try the house made Banana Bread French Toast.

The best breakfast – non buffet is at the Wilderness Lodge. Service A+, skillet breakfast gives you a little of everything without having to choose. Pine come waffles are just as good as Mickey waffles. Cast members ” play the part”. Last time I was there we were lucky to have a couple I characters pass by in our way in. Friends staying off property met us for breakfast because they loves it so much.
The waffles with expresso-mascarpone cream and the poached eggs at the new Trattorio al Forno. They were heavenly! The last day Of our trip, we had breakfast there. It was the best meal of the whole trip and we had a lot of good meals. It is the first reservation we made for our next trip.
The breakfast at Ventanas in the Coronado Springs resort is by far the best breakfast. The thick and chewy bacon is reason enough to go there. And it’s so affordable. $12 average for plate of breakfast and the portions are HUGE!! It’s a must go!!

I am obsessed with the Winnie the Pooh French toast puffs at the Crystal Palace buffet breakfast (they’re in the kids section but I have no shame and always take at least 2 pieces). I’m also in love with the breakfast pizza at chef mickeys and of course Mickey waffles (they hold the syrup so well!)…on my next trip (197 days, AHH!) I’m going for that cinnamon roll…
Patricia — I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Main Street Bakery no longer offers a cinnamon roll. Gaston’s Tavern in New Fantasyland sells one that’s supposed to be very similar, but we haven’t loved it as much. Here are a couple of suggestions: we have a recipe that you can use to make it at home. Also, BoardWalk Bakery has a lovely version that’s topped with lots of icing. Finally, stay tuned, because we’ll be featuring all of our favorite Disney World cinnamon rolls in an upcoming post shortly. 🙂

Eggs florentine at be our Guest in the magic kingdom. Sadly, I don’t think it’s on the menu anymore, but it was mine and my husband’s favorite thing to eat there!
French toast at the Grand Floridian Cafe. OMG.
Honestly, just the entire Cape May Cafe breakfast buffet. So many diverse options from Mickey Waffles, to the best balsamic marinated cauliflower and tomatoes I’ve ever had, to an incredible mushroom quiche, to their delicious biscuits and pancakes, you really can’t go wrong with anything there! They even have a made-to-order omelet station which I didn’t try, but my sister loved.
The best breakfast I’ve ever had in a Disney is the Royale Breakfast at Bon Voyage! The steak was cooked so well and everything just complimented each other perfectly! I loved it so much we went back for a second visit later in the trip!
I can’t believe no one has mentioned the French Toast Bread Pudding with Caramel Pecan Sauce served at Boma’s at AKL. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! I think their brunch is the best I’ve been to at Disney. The variety is great and the scrambled eggs with goat cheese and spinach is also delicious.
At Trattoria al Forno located at the Boardwalk Resort they have this breakfast basket of pastries that comes with the character (Ariel, Prince Eric, Rapunzel, Flynn Ryder) breakfast…..it has croissant texture-like “cat tails” with chocolate filling; various berry filled muffins; this rapunzel-sun cookie that had a delicate lemon flavor, and these clam shell pastries (again croissant like texture with tons of layers and a light glaze) these were filled with strawberry gelee….now i hate strawberry….but i kind of ate around it because the clam shells tasted so amazing! (suggest possibly blackberry or raspberry fillings….would be awesome!)
At Chef Art Smith’s Homecoming located in Disney Springs they have a carnivore or keto dieter’s best friend breakfast called “The Grand-daddy”. It has eggs, bacon, and ham (the most amazing ham!) and you can get two sides with that (for you keto carnivores….bacon & ham are sides!) they also give you a cheddar biscuit.

In 1981 or 82 we went to Disney world. Inmagic kingdom they had a delicious sandwich. It was on a sub roll that was holowed out in middle filled with shrimp salad. We have been back three more times but I have no seen them again. I think they sold them outside.
