So, you’ve likely heard the news that the official debut for the Rivers of Light Evening Spectacular coming to Animal Kingdom is set for April 22, 2016! Yay!!
The Harambe Wildlife Parti and Discovery Island Carnivale street parties are also in the works, as well as a chance to see the Tree of Life “awaken” in the evenings. And of course, we can’t wait for the arrival of Signature Dining at Animal Kingdom with Tiffins, and the accompanying Nomad Lounge.
So, yeah. LOTS of good and exciting stuff on the way to Animal Kingdom! But have you heard what’s GONE from this transforming park?
JUMBO TURKEY LEGS.
That’s right — this iconic Disney Park snack can no longer be found at this particular Disney Park. Once located at Trilo-Bites, its most recent home at Animal Kingdom has been Flame Tree Barbecue. But alas, no more…
Whether you love ’em or hate ’em, you’ve gotta recognize that Jumbo Turkey Legs are such a park staple that they’ve been honored on T-shirts, air fresheners, wallets, hats, and a little-too-authentic-looking magnet.
Lots of new dishes are hitting the scene, though, at spots like Pizzafari (a new Shrimp Flatbread, for one) and Flame Tree Barbecue (including a Ribs, Chicken, and Pork Sampler), and a souped-up toppings bar at Restaurantosaurus. So will one of these dishes fill the Jumbo Turkey Leg void?
Only time will tell… in the meantime, if you’re on the hunt for a Turkey Leg, you’ll want to hit up spots like Epcot’s Fife & Drum Tavern, Magic Kingdom’s Prince Eric’s Village Market, and Toluca Legs Turkey Co. in Hollywood Studios.
What do you think of the removal of Turkey Legs from Animal Kingdom? Please let us know with a comment!
Logan says
Probably a good thing, right? Those things contain almost a full day’s calories.
Richard says
After the Pork Shank and many other speciality foods disappearing it seems obvious they are trying to unify the counter service menus so everything is the same in all of the parks.
Watch, the Turkey Leg will start getting harder to find in all of the parks until it is completely gone.
Mark says
Looking forward to the upgraded toppings bar at Restaurantosauros. Never had a turkey leg in 30 years of going to the parks.
Jeff says
I’m guessing this might have to do with idiots trying to throw that big bone to animals.
Deb says
NOOOOO! They were the best snacks for taking back to the room at night!! Our whole family enjoyed those wonderful legs …
We are sad now!!
Jon says
Richard,
Given you can still get Turkey legs at the other three parks and they are bringing new dishes in at the Animal Kingdom you can’t get in the other parks is sounds like the opposite to me, they are trying to make the options at Animal Kingdom more unique.
I all think Jeff is right, there must have been guests trying to feed the bone to animals.
Mike V says
I just hope this decision along with many other food decisions is not for the sake of “healthy choice” options.
I am on vacation when I come to Disney, don’t try and dictate to me whats good and not good for me.
Live to Eat, don’t Eat to Live…..
Matt says
@Mike V
I agree with you. Calories don’t count in Disney.

Very sad! They were awesome. Geez Disney what else are taking away, and replacing with “something” new?
Pat says
There will be a lot of happy emus jumping up and down with joy on the legs they can now keep.
Beth says
The food at Disney has been getting more generic with each trip.
Greg says
Are you guys nuts ??
The turkey leg is GREAT…………
LET IT STAY ON THE MENU !!!!!!!!
AJ says
Greg — You can still get it everywhere else 😀
