Okay, I was SUPER PUMPED when I started hearing about the return of a certain favorite sandwich to the Magic Kingdom.
Our roving reporter headed straight to Main Street, U.S.A. to begin a trek to discover the truth behind recent rumors of the return of the treat.
The main objective: Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in Liberty Square to find out if the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich was back on the menu.
And IT IS!! The Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich is once again listed along with the Nutella and Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich, and the relatively recent addition of the Sausage and Cheddar-stuffed Pretzel.
The Chicken Waffle Sandwich made its return with… a gigantic price increase (womp, womp).
It’s now $10.29. So, there ya go. But still… it’s BACK! So we had to try it to see if it was the same goodness it always was. As a reminder, here’s the sandwich in its previous form. Big Belgian waffle, big chicken, slaw, and arugula. (Can you sense we’re setting you up for disappointment here?)
You can see why we were bummed when it suddenly disappeared earlier this year.
Well, it is back…kind of. With one big caveat. Actually, make that one small caveat… because the piece of chicken is smaller. Like, significantly. smaller.
So, sweet and spicy Asian sauce? Check. Greens? No arugula anymore, but the slaw is still there. So we’ll give that a check, too. Big ol’ waffle? Yes, sir. Though it’s not the big, deep-pocketed Belgian we’re accustomed to.
Large piece of batter-fried chicken? Ummm….
We checked with the Cast Member to make sure this wasn’t just one of those short-end-of-the-stick, what’cha-gonna-do? type of things. Nope. This is it. Plus, the sandwiches that all the other guests had looked the same to us. (And, just to share our full experience, when we asked the cast member about the size, she told us that Disney was doing guests a favor by making it smaller so it was easier to hold. Really?)
But remember that price increase I mentioned earlier? A smaller product to the tune of nearly 3 more bucks? Yeah. I’m crying foul. (And that’s NOT a chicken pun, as in fowl. I promise.) It’s still delicious. But it’s now kiiiiiiind of a rip-off.
But we DO have some good news coming. On this research foray into the Kingdom we got news of another favorite item that’s returned as well… and all is right in the world with this one 🙂 . So stay tuned, my friends…
What do you think of the return of the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich? Please let us know with a comment!

I’ll pass. People have to draw a line somewhere! If it came back more expensive, but the same size, I could see it because everything keeps going up, but to decrease it’s size and increase the price by $3.00, is too much. I hope they don’t do that with the fruit waffle, because I really want to try that on my next trip.

We just tried the Nutella and fruit waffle last week and I thought the waffle was too thin and definitely not a Belgium waffle. It was a very floppy waffle and not very crisp. This was the first time we tried a waffle sandwich here, so we were a bit disappointed. It definitely did not look like your previous pictures either !
Dave says
I guess they will say, hey the amount of spices on the chicken is the same so imagine the concentration of flavors when you finally do get to the chicken after 4 bites of waffle! Price goes any higher it may qualify for full table service dinner on dining plan!

Boo! We liked the other sandwich better, and we were bummed when they both went away. Now they only brought back the chicken waffle, and it’s not nearly the deal it used to be. We used to be able to happily feed my family of 4 off of two of these sandwiches for about $15! Oh well, I’m glad I know about the size difference so I won’t order it.
Cap'n says
Seriously. It’s always less product, less quality, more cost. Now, let’s go check out that stock price. I don’t think your system is working, Disney. I just hope I can get out of my stock before the next quarter earnings hit the fan.

The waffles were changed there during the Christmas holiday when we visited. Def thinner and not as crispy – but when we asked about it the worker said it cooked faster… guess you have been over-advertising the deliciousness of that Nutella waffle 😉
Kelsey says
Geez… this is kind of shameful.

This sandwich is one of my favorites and it’s one that I always get and bring friends to try as well. What a huge disappointment that the price went up and the size went down. I may just have to ask them for the recipes of I can make my own at home with my own waffle maker. Thanks for keeping us up to date. I always look forward to new blog posts.

Whaaaaaaaaatttttt?????? I neeeeeeed my arugula on it!!!!!

The constant price increases are very disappointing. The waffle isn’t even up to it’s usual standard. That looks all soggy and floppy. I would have asked for my money back

A little hack for those traveling with a family (or at least one other person)
If you have someone that enjoys chicken tenders, send one person to Columbia Harbour House and another to Sleepy Hallow. The person at CHH will order the chicken tender platter. If you’re on the Dining Plan, it’ll be one QS credit. If not, it’s $11.29 and comes with cole slaw, fries or apple slices. Stop by the condiments and grab some hot sauce and/or BBQ sauce. You can also order it at Pinnochio Village Haus, but it doesn’t come with cole slaw.
The person at Sleepy Hallow will order the waffle for $6.79. Ask for no whipped cream or fruit – just plain. Meet halfway and construct your sandwich, with the chicken, cole slaw and your choice of sauce.
You can share the fries and the drink. So, for either $8 more or if you’re on the Dining Plan, for only $6.79, you’ll have a slightly different waffle sandwich that’s much larger, as well as fries and a drink. It’s a little work, but if you’re looking to get more value it’s worth it.

Best/worse excuse ever for lowering the quality and value of a product. I keeping my fingers crossed that the returned favourite item is the cake cups at Cheshire Cafe. Unless they are now $15…

Pete — That’s awesome! Thank you for sharing!!
Denys says
Please oh please say it’s the Pork Shank returning….
lisa P says
Well I liked the ham and cheese one better but the waffle was the best part and sure, you had to wait a few minutes but nothing extreme. It’s a shame they changed it.
Matt says
I’m happy and disappointed at same time.
That is one of my favorite things ever at the world and pouted like a 5 year old when it disappeared.
I’m happy it’s back but why so itty bitty?
And I’m with DENYS I hope the pork shank is back!
Miranda says
I have my fingers crossed for the return of plastic cheese!
Disappointing about the chicken waffle, for sure.
Brooke says
Matt and Denys — I hate like the dickens to disappoint you guys, but it’s not the Pork Shank. I know. My daughter is still irritated over that one.
Mindie says
Womp womp! What a disappointing return for my previous favorite MK snack. For now, I’m digging the Pecos Bill nachos fully loaded from their toppings bar. We also noticed the soggy, floppy waffle last time at Sleepy Hollow when we got the Nutella version but thought it was a fluke. Looks like that’s a permanent change so we’ll probably be skipping these now.
Neil says
1. I was very disappointed that I never got to try the original version. Disappointed that the new one is not as good but I might still give it a whirl.
2. I love how Disney has a stock answer to why it’s smaller. Like enough people asked that they had to tell cast members what to say to them.
3. To the guy who constructs his own waffle sandwich out of a chicken tender meal and condiments from another restaurant: you have thoroughly brightened my morning.
Karisa says
Also holding out hope for the pork shank!!!
Howie says
I will be smuggling a bag of arugula into MK with me next week.
lela king says
yummy
Holi says
What the heck? That is not the same. The old version worth 10 bucks, even if for appeal only. That new one…there are no words.
Sara says
I just ordered this over the weekend. I was given two large pieces of chicken. I wonder if they either read this review or realized they were ripping people off with only one piece! It was nice to get two pieces of chicken, but the slaw was kind of soggy and there wasn’t much of it.
elizabeth says
Sorry ! Definitely not a Belgian waffle !
Blair says
Super bummed to head that the got rid of the Belgium Waffles!! Those were amazing!! I always got the Nutella & fruit and the waffle MADE it!
