Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened in Disneyland park on May 31, 2019 and in Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios on August 29, 2019.

There are so many amazing components to this dual coast themed land! So get ready to TRULY step into “a galaxy far, far, away…” 

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge — Black Spire Outpost on the Planet of Batuu

Guests step directly into Star Wars canon when they set foot on Batuu, a planet tucked between the Unknown Regions and Wild Space, which is the setting for Galaxy’s Edge.

Black Spire Outpost is a village on Batuu. As the largest settlement on the planet, it’s also “an infamous stop for traders, adventurers, and smugglers traveling around the Outer Rim and Wild Space.”

What were once towering trees now stand as spires comprised of the petrified remains on this forgotten planet… hence, the Black Spire Outpost.

It is here that the Resistance has secretly set up a temporary base.

However, the First Order has learned about the presence of members of the Resistance in Black Spire Outpost.

And they are eager to “stomp out any remaining flickers of opposition to their absolute control…”

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Attractions

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is an interactive flight simulator that allows guests to take on the role of pilot, gunner, or flight engineer on “the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy!”

YOU will be either a pilot, gunner, or flight engineer! Six guests participate in each ride vehicle with pilots in the front, gunners in the middle, and flight engineers in the last row.

The attraction offers an immersive queue featuring iconic areas of the famous ship and a ride which lets fans live out their dreams of flying the Falcon, and you can read more about it here.

NEWS: Disney has announced Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will soon feature one of the most popular Star Wars characters, the Mandalorian! New missions with the Mandalorian and Grogu are going to be added to the attraction in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. This new Mandalorian and Grogu storyline will coincide with the release of upcoming films in 2026.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opened on December 5, 2019 in Disney World and on January 17, 2020 in Disneyland and is, according to Disney, “one of the most advanced and immersive experiences ever undertaken by Walt Disney Imagineering.” 

You’ll find Rise of the Resistance in a wooded area near Black Spire Outpost. Here, the Resistance is hiding out in a military outpost to avoid detection by the First Order.

The experience brings guests — or rather, new Resistance recruits — right into an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance, including a face-off with Kylo-Ren!

Rise of the Resistance is truly a one-of-a-kind attraction, and remains the most in-demand ride in Hollywood Studios and in Disneyland.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Dining

Galaxy’s Edge offers five uniquely themed dining experiences! A lounge, a fast-casual counter service restaurant, and three snack and beverage stands make up the options as seen below.

Oga’s Cantina

Of course, there’s a genuine Star Wars Cantina in Black Spire Outpost! Oga’s Cantina serves up drinks and entertainment in Galaxy’s Edge.

When you set foot inside Oga’s, you are stepping into a genuine Star Wars cantina filled with history, character, music, and out-of-this-galaxy drinks… all in a setting like no other.

The local watering hole of Black Spire Outpost is famous for its concoctions which are available with choices for both kids and adults.

RX-24, the former StarSpeeder 3000 pilot droid from Star Tours, serves as the Cantina’s DJ as DJ R-3X!

You can take a full photo tour of Oga’s Cantina here! And be advised: though it is unusual for a lounge to do so, Oga’s Cantina accepts Advance Dining Reservations due to its popularity, and they are highly encouraged.

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo

Travelers will be able to spot the fast-casual Quick Service eatery Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo by the multi-transport shuttle docked on top.

Proprietor  and Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs runs the kitchen at Docking Bay 7 Cargo and Food, having once honed his cooking craft in the kitchen of Maz Kanata on Takodana and then traveled the galaxy with the combined result of bringing “exotic flavors and unusual dishes to “Tuggs’ Grub.”

And as to those exotic flavors and unusual dishes?

Guests can expect to enjoy “familiar flavors but sometimes with unexpected and surprising colors and textures” in a unique presentation.

Ronto Roasters

Ronto Roasters serves up the specialty of the house (and more): the Ronto Wrap!

You’ll spy a pitmaster droid busy at work turning a mechanical spit at Ronto Roasters. What’s he grilling? Why, it’s a side of Ronto — a beast native to Luke Skywalker’s home planet of Tatooine.

The Ronto Wrap is a handheld snack featuring spiced grilled sausage and roasted pork.

Breakfast options like the Morning Ronto Wrap and some of the best plant-based eats in Disney World (like the Zucchi Wrap) are also served here.

Blue Milk AND Green Milk at the Milk Stand!

You’ll find a cart across from a TIE Echelon in the First Order-controlled sector of Black Spire Outpost.

And it is a spot where you will find Blue Milk and Green Milk — both made famous by Luke Skywalker — at the Milk Stand!

Blue and Green Milk are both frozen, non-dairy beverages made with rice and coconut milks.

Kat Saka’s Kettle

Kat Saka’s Kettle serves the Saka family specialty: grain turned into a flavored treat (popcorn)!

Outpost Mix is a sweet, spicy, and salty snack, beloved by the citizens of Batuu.

Note that Kat Saka’s Kettle is one spot where you can find the Galaxy’s Edge exclusive Coca-Cola beverage bottles.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Characters

Seeing and meeting characters in Galaxy’s Edge is different than what guests might be used to from other Lands in Disney World and Disneyland Resort. In Galaxy’s Edge, you’ll spot roaming characters — also referred to as Character Sightings.

Essentially, you will very likely see several characters and perhaps even interact with them in the land; however, they do not have a designated greeting location, nor do they often stand still for individual photo opportunities. In other words, Galaxy’s Edge does not offer “Character Meet-and-Greets” in the traditional sense.

As discussed above, here in Black Spire Outpost, the Resistance has secretly set up a temporary base.

So, as you might imagine, things are a little busy in these parts, and so you may spot members of the Resistance including Rey and Chewbacca roaming around Black Spire Outpost around the Millennium Falcon, or keeping an eye on things just across from the Black Spire Outpost Marketplace.

Or perhaps you’ll find Vi Moradi on a mission. (Want to get to know Vi? There are a couple of books you can check out, including Galaxy’s Edge: Black Spire by Delilah S. Dawson which is set on Batuu so you can get to know her character AND the area even before you go, if you like!)

Of course, where the Resistance is, members of the First Order may not be far behind.

Kylo Ren and a few Stormtroopers can be seen around Galaxy’s Edge as they try to track down Resistance members.

You may also be one of the lucky ones who gets to see The Mandalorian and Grogu!

In fact, luck has a hand these days, because — unlike the other roaming characters in Galaxy’s Edge — you can now find the times when Mando and Grogu can be seen in the land by checking the My Disney Experience app!

There are also more limited time character possibilities from time to time. For instance, in Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge, Boba Fett and Fennec Shand have made appearances.

And DISNEYLAND guests may spy Ahsoka Tano wandering around Batuu!

General Hera Sydulla and her trusty droid, Chopper, might be spotted at Black Spire Outpost in Disneyland.

Please be aware that both Hollywood Studios and Disneyland park do offer traditional Meet-and-Greets (including photo opportunities) with Star Wars characters. However, they take place outside of Galaxy’s Edge.

For example, Star Wars Launch Bay in Disney’s Hollywood Studios gives guests the chance to meet Darth Vader, Chewbacca, and BB-8. Check the My Disney Experience app or Disneyland app to find out where and when you can meet Star Wars characters in other areas in the parks in addition to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Savi’s Workshop — Handbuilt Lightsabers

Be instructed in the ways of the Force and build your own customizable Lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop — Handbuilt Lightsabers.

A visit inside Savi’s Workshop is reserved exclusively for guests who participate in the Build-Your-Own Lightsaber experience (purchase required).

The costs is $219.99 (plus tax) for a lightsaber with carrying case, and reservations can be made 60 days in advance on the Disneyland website or Walt Disney World website.  You can find everything you need to know about this truly memorable experience (and seriously amazing Star Wars keepsake) by clicking here.

Droid Depot — Build-Your-Own Droid

You can build your very own droid at the Droid Depot! 

Droid Depot is an industrial workshop with a collection of droid parts — and visitors can select from those parts to customize their own R unit (like R2-D2), BB unit (like BB-8), or C unit (like Chopper from Star Wars: Rebels) droid.

The cost is $99.99 (plus tax) for a Droid from the Build Your Own Droid experience, including its remote and carrying case. and reservations can be made 60 days in advance on the Disneyland website or Walt Disney World website.  You can find everything you need to know about assembling your very own Droid by clicking here.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Shopping and Merchandise

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge features nine shops in total, and the majority of available merchandise is exclusive to Galaxy’s Edge. The merchandise purchased within the land is not branded with Disney or the name of the land; rather, it’s designed to keep guests immersed in the story of Black Spire Outpost.

Let’s start our space shopping spree in the Black Spire Outpost Marketplace.

Creature Stall

Bina’s Creature Stall is where you can pick up a new pet to accompany your journey through the galaxy.

You can shop for plush and your ideal Star Wars pet (many of which present life-like, interactive features) while surrounded by animated versions in cages around the store.

Perhaps you’d like a Dianoga of your very own…

… as long as it’s immersed its water container, of course. 😉

Toydarian Toyshop

The Toydarian Toyshop, run by Zabaka the Toydarian, is where you’ll find lots of plushes and action figures.

All of the toys here have a unique homemade feel, as they were crafted by Zabaka herself.

The shop also carries some musical instruments you might have spotted in the Star Wars films like the clarinet played at Mos Eisley’s Cantina.

From the galaxy’s legendary spaceships, to its heroes (and even villains)…

… you’re bound to find a true toy treasure, thanks to the Toydarian!

Black Spire Outfitters

Black Spire Outfitters gives guests the chance to dress the part in their future galactic adventures.

From Jedi Robes to more casual gear, the Outpost’s local tailor is ready for you to grab your gear!

The Jewels of Bith

A tourist on Black Spire Outpost will certainly want to remember their journey with a special souvenir or two.

The Jewels of Bith sells Batuuan treasures and trinkets like mugs and magnets to add to your collection and show your friends back on earth where you’ve traveled.

Of course, more unique items can be found beyond the Marketplace… 

Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities

Dok-Ondar has amassed an enormous collection of rare antiquities and keeps them in Black Spire Outpost, including Jedi and Sith artifacts.

You’ll find them tucked into every corner and crevice of Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities!

Among the offerings are Sith and Jedi holocron cubes (or archives).

Legacy (replica) Lightsabers help you feel the Force from those whose stories are told throughout the galaxy.

Legacy Lightsabers may include those of Asoka Tano, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Princess Leia, Plo Koon, Darth Sidious, Count Dooku, Cal Kestis, Ezra Bridger, and many more.

From smaller souvenirs to sizable splurges, Dok-Ondar’s is sure to have something for you!

P.S. Don’t forget to say “Hello” to Dok while you’re there!

Just don’t be surprised if he doesn’t say “Bright Suns” back… he’s quite the busy Ithorian, you know…

Droid Depot

As mentioned above, the Droid Depot offers a Build-Your-Own Droid experience, but it ALSO welcomes all visitors to Black Spire Outpost to check out all of the other droid wares in the merchandise location!

If you do choose to Build-Your-Own Droid, you can find even more options for customizing here, but droid fans can also find toys, apparel, and more.

First Order Cargo and Resistance Supply

Members of the First Order operate their own supply stall in First Order Cargo selling everything from helmets, jackets, and other apparel to housewares such as journals, mugs, and water bottles.

And don’t tell any Stormtroopers, but… The Resistance runs their own makeshift shop, too.

Resistance Supply carries Resistance-inspired clothing options including new pins, badges and hats, and you’ll find it steps away from the Rise of the Resistance attraction.

Technology in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Star Wars Datapad on Play Disney Parks App

The Play Disney Parks app has changed how we interact with the Disney Parks, and Galaxy’s Edge takes this technology to the next level. The app, upon entering Galaxy’s Edge, transforms into your own Star Wars Datapad.

Interact

Four key functions are present in your datapad: Hack, Scan, Translate, and Tune.

Hack: Your datapad will help you identify landmarks within Black Spire Outpost with devices to hack such as control panels around the village.

Scan objects within the spaceport to find hidden items when you investigate, say, a shipping crate or container. You may even locate special cargo and various digital goods.

Tune allows you to listen in on satellite transmissions and hear stories of the residents of the village (and maybe even learn a secret or two).

Translate helps you understand written and spoken languages on Batuu.

Queue AND Land Games

Not only can you earn an achievement by taking control of the Falcon on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.

You can also play an in-queue game, taking on a job for Hondo Ohnaka to prove to the space Pirate that YOU are ready to control the Millennium Falcon.

And Outpost Control is a land-wide, multi player game occurring several times daily which offers you the opportunity to show where your allegiance lies… with the First Order or with the Resistance.

The First Order intends to spy on the Resistance by installing surveillance devices on doors in the Outpost. The goal of the Resistance? To remove them! Visitors to Batuu can choose which side they’ll support by hacking the panels for the First Order OR for the Resistance.

Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters — An Interactive Game with MagicBand+

Disney World guests can interact with the parks in NEW ways thanks to MagicBand+. Join the Batuu Bounty Hunters’ Guild through Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! In order to play the game, you will need, of course, a MagicBand+ and you will also need to have the most recent version of the Play Disney Parks app downloaded on your phone. Once you have those things, you’re good to go!

The instructions for the game are located inside the Play Disney Parks app, and are also posted around Galaxy’s Edge. Head to the Bounty Board located near Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Then tap your MagicBand+ to the board to get your job assignment. 

Follow the MagicBand+’s light patterns and haptics to find virtual bounties that have been hidden throughout Black Spire Outpost. (This process uses the “app’s built-in augmented reality thermal viewer.”) As you move around Galaxy’s Edge, your MagicBand+ will start flashing one of three colors If it’s flashing red, that means you’re moving away from your target. Green indicates that you’re getting closer to your target! 

When your MagicBand+ turns purple, that’s how you know that you’ve located your target!

There are 20 targets that you can find in total, and the process is the same for each one, but you don’t need to find each bounty if you don’t want to. Once you’ve completed the mission, you’ll return to “the local guild master.” That guild master — Raga Bua, by name — will then reward you with galactic credits. (Difficulty will increase as you find more bounties!)

YOUR Adventure in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

“BRIGHT SUNS!” Did you know that the planet Batuu has three suns? THAT’S why you may hear the citizens of Batuu greet you with this warm saying (pun intended!).

You’ll likely see and hear things you aren’t familiar with here on earth while visiting Black Spire Outpost. For instance. Aurebesh is the written language of the Star Wars universe, and you’ll see it in print on buildings, signs, labels, and more in Black Spire Outpost. Even menus like this one at Milk Stand are partially written in Aurebesh in Galaxy’s Edge.

To that end, we’ve put together this handy guide of expressions you may hear, along with the Aurebesh alphabet, with this free printable guide to Batuuan phrases to help you fit in with the locals!

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Merchandise

Merchandise within the land of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is unique in that it is “in-world.” You won’t find merchandise branded with the land’s name inside Galaxy’s Edge for a more immersive experience.

However, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge branded merchandise is available in other locations and major shops around Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World.
