Velkommem to Midnattssol Bakeri in Epcot’s Norway Pavilion!
This little kiosk (which may look familiar to fans of the Epcot Food and Wine Festival) has some big shoes to fill. You see, it’s the spot for Norwegian snack goodies while Kringla Bakeri og Kafe is undergoing a fairly extensive refurbishment.
We mentioned this temporary location a few weeks ago while we were visiting the pavilion on our way around World Showcase to try every single item at the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival. At the time, you could only grab a few treats at the small Norway Beer Cart. But now, Midnattssol is up and running, so let’s see which of your favorite Norway snacks are up for grabs while it’s here!
For the most part, offerings are as expected.
I mean, what’s a trip to the Norway Pavilion without a Chocolate Pretzel, Lefse (for those of you who are fans :), or Rice Cream?
And I know I don’t feel like I’ve been to the Norway Pavilion unless I’ve had some School Bread!
My School Bread couldn’t resist having its picture snapped with the Anna and Elsa topiary for the Flower & Garden Festival 😉 .
Anyway, they’re all here, along with one for the excited little Frozen fans who just met Anna and Elsa at the Royal Sommerhus, or rode Frozen Ever After — that’s Anna’s Birthday Cake. And the Norwegian Club is available for heartier appetites.
But the one brand new — and COMPLETELY unexpected — item is the Viking Dog, which you’ll now see Cast Members assembling per order at Midnattssol.
It’s an advertised ONE-POUND (is that even possible?!) all-beef hot dog topped with purple cabbage, spicy mayo, and fried onions.
There’s even bacon tucked inside because… Vikings. They must love bacon, too, right?
I don’t know if it’s a full pound, but this thing is HUGE. And I won’t vouch for it’s authenticity, either. But it’s tasty, fun, and it may even give us an idea of what might be served at Kringla Bakeri when it reopens. Do you think?
Speaking of the reopening…. Kringla Bakeri og Kafe is closed through this summer. This rather lengthy refurbishment is expected to result in an expanded bakery. And as you approach the currently closed Kringla…
…you may also notice that the entrance to its next door neighbor — the Puffin’s Roost merchandise location — is closed, too.
While we could not get a specific answer when we asked the Cast Members in Norway, it certainly looks as though the expanded Kringla location may very well go into the Puffin’s Roost. Of course, you can still find plenty o’ merch at the Wandering Reindeer as you exit Frozen Ever After. And the popular Laila perfume also remains up for grabs even though the merchandise locations are operating in limited capacity.
So, that’s the current view from Norway! We look forward to finding out what’s in store for Kringla Bakeri og Kafe when it reopens later this year! But we’re sure glad we don’t have to give up our School Bread while we wait… thanks, Midnattssol Bakeri!!

That’s all well and good….but what about that Anna’s birthday cake?
Essie says
I love this ‘Can’t Miss’ eatery, so I’ll sure be happy when it’s back!

You can keep the school bread, I’ll take all the lefse they have! The club sandwich sounds pretty good, but I STILL miss the old open-face salmon and cold scrambled egg sandwiches my late husband and I loved to share. However, I wouldn’t mind one of the Viking Dogs, although I must say it sounded so good, bbut the photo was a little disappointing. I was picturing the “fried onions” as sauteed/carmelized, not canned. Oh, well. Maybe I can get a little raw onion for mine. I wonder if they’d substitute a couple pieces of lefse to “wrap” the dog instead of the bun.

What is the chocolate pretzel?! Chocolate dipped? Chocolate filled?
DFB Sarah says
Jill, the Chocolate Pretzel is a sweet raisin pretzel with lots of chocolate drizzle. 🙂
Jill C says
Thanks DFB Sarah! Good to know. The raisins don’t do it for me – I’ll stick with other yummy snacks!
Lisa says
@Kristina I totally agree…what about Anna’s Birthday Cake? We need to know!
DFB Sarah says
Lisa and Kristina: Anna’s Birthday Cake is still on the menu at Midnattsol!

I was told by a cast member on Disney chat that the berry cream puff was going to be available still. I have been waiting 4 years for another one.
I’m so disappointed

Thanks for the tip about this kiosk. I was able to get my favorite School Bread on our recent trip despite the closing of Kringla for refurbishment. I’m looking forward to the expanded version when we are there next in October.

In an earlier post you mentioned that troll horns were available at the beer kart before Midnattssol was open, are they still available now that it is?
DFB Sarah says
Micaela, we have not seen Troll Horns at Midnattsol since it opened. 🙁
Jeff says
Is the main bakery open yet?? 8/5/18?
DFB Sarah says
Jeff, not yet! We’re waiting anxiously!

Nice blog, it would be helpful if the entries were dated at the top of the page.
