When you travel with five or more people, finding a Walt Disney World resort that fits your party size and budget can be a challenge. Should you stay in one room or two? Which is best for you: a regular room, a Suite or a Villa? What are your various options?
Families of 5 at a Value Resort or Moderate Resort
Depending on your travel dates, booking two rooms at a Disney Value Resort (All-Star Movies, Music, Sports, Pop Century or Mermaid Rooms at Disney’s Art of Animation) can be the least expensive option for larger families who want extra space. At a total of 520 sq ft, these two rooms will sleep up to eight in four double beds with two bathrooms. Connecting rooms provide adults with a place to relax after putting the kids to bed. Disney will only guarantee connecting rooms if there are more children than adults in your party. (Note that children under age 3 in a crib do not count toward the total occupancy in any Walt Disney World resort.)
A family of five can stay in one room at Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside or Disney’s Caribbean Beach. Both are Disney Moderate Resorts with bedding in select room categories that includes two queen beds and a bunk size pull-down bed recommended for a child under age 10. The rooms are 300 – 314 sq ft and amenities include a TV, coffee maker, vanity with two sinks, and a small refrigerator. (Pirate and Royal rooms fit up to four guests.)
Families of 6 at a Value Resort, Moderate Resort, or Fort Wilderness Campground
Families of six will be comfortable in a 520 sq ft Deluxe Family Suite at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort. These accommodations have a separate bedroom and two bathrooms. Bedding includes a queen bed, a full-size pullout sofa, an ottoman and a chair sleeper that both convert into twin beds in the living room. For convenience there is a kitchenette with microwave, small refrigerator, and coffee pot.
A party of six can stay in uniquely themed family suites at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. The Finding Nemo, Cars, or Lion King Suites are 565 sq ft and include two bathrooms, a separate bedroom with a queen size bed, a double size sleeper sofa in the living room, and a double size Inova table bed near the kitchenette. Kids will love the larger-than-life Disney and Pixar icons plus a gigantic feature pool/ play area spanning 11,859 sq ft.
How would you like to rough it, Disney-style? At 504 sq ft, a cozy cabin at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort can hold up to six guests. Each unit is a separate dwelling with a private patio and parking for one car. The cabins are homey, with a living room area including a TV and Murphy bed, separate bedroom with a double bed and bunk beds, and one bathroom. If you like to prepare meals, there is a kitchen with full-size refrigerator, microwave, stove, oven, dishwasher utensils, cookware, plates, etc.
Junior suites at Disney’s Coronado Springs, a Disney Moderate Resort, can accommodate up to six guests, as well. These suites are like two connected rooms with two baths, two queen beds, and a queen sleeper sofa in a living room area with a small table and chairs.
Families of 5 at a Disney Deluxe Resort
If convenience is your top priority, your party of five might consider a Disney Deluxe Resort, including the Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Polynesian, Yacht and Beach Club, and Boardwalk Inn. These luxurious hotels are located either on the Monorail, within walking distance, or a short boat, Skyliner, or bus ride to the theme parks. Rooms at these resorts can accommodate a family of five in two queen size beds and a day bed in 400 – 448 sq ft of space.
Club Level Deluxe Rooms for Parties of 6
If you are a party of six, a Club Level Deluxe room with two queen beds and extra space for a sleeper sofa/chair may be available at these Disney Deluxe resorts: Animal Kingdom Lodge, Wilderness Lodge, or BoardWalk Inn. Club level rooms and suites include exclusive concierge amenities including snacks and beverages throughout the day.
Disney Vacation Club Villas
Disney Vacation Club Villas (DVC) provide spacious accommodations plus the comforts of home. Deluxe Studios (374 – 447 sq ft) at Disney’s Polynesian Village, Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and the Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian can fit up to five guests. They offer a kitchenette (microwave, sink, coffee maker, and small refrigerator), one queen bed, double size sleeper sofa, and bunk-size pull down bed.
Another homey option for families of five is a One-Bedroom Villa (710 – 942 sq ft) at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas, Old Key West, Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian, or Bay Lake Tower at the Contemporary. These fully equipped Vacation Homes feature a master suite with king-size bed and whirlpool tub, a living room with queen size sofa and pull-out sleeper chair that turns into a twin bed, flat panel TV, DVD player, full kitchen, washer/dryer, and a private balcony.
Two and Three-bedroom DVC villas span a whopping 1075 – 1333 sq ft and are perfect for multiple families with 8 – 12 guests looking to settle into their own home-away-from-home with a fully equipped kitchen. Unique accommodations include Tree House Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs, Bungalows over the water at Disney’s Polynesian Village, and the Copper Creek Villas and Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
