The small flags on Main Street USA also serve as lightning rods for the area!
It’s a common misconception that it is “illegal” (with penalties) to not lower (or light) US flags at night and not take them down during rain/snow/other bad weather. While it’s respectful to do so, there are no laws *requiring* such. If you look around almost any town in the US, you will see many US flags that are never lowered, and a few that have been flying so long that they have become tattered.
What there *is* is the flag code (which is a law) which suggests how to properly display flags. While it is a law, no penalties are imposed. I’m sure Disney used non-official US-style flags to be able to say honestly that they were obeying the flag code, but the fact is most visitors will never notice that the flags Disney displays are not official flags. So while they are obeying the letter of the law of the flag code, to all appearances they are not. They are certainly not using unofficial flags to avoid penalties, as there are none. Generally the only penalties with respect to flags are for mutilating flags or displaying flags with additional symbols or words added.
I hate seeing tattered flags, but most business owners, and even local government agencies, seem to care if their US flag(s) are tattered.

And speaking of flags, if you are going to be staying at the Wilderness Lodge, when you make your reservation ask if you can be flag raisers for the day during your stay. Every morning they pick a person/people/family to walk up special stairs onto the roof and raise the flag on the main bldg ! Sometimes you can get it at reservation time and others get it upon asking at check-in. The view from there has to be phenomenal.

In the Tower of Terror, you mentioned a date. 1959…..do you know the exact date? The number above the signature is 10259. It is the State ID number.
