It’s always a surprising and eye-catching moment during Magic Kingdom’s Festival of Fantasy Parade when the Maleficent Dragon float breathes actual fire during the popular parade.
But today, disaster struck when the Float itself caught fire during the performance!
We are glad to say that it’s being reported that the driver of the float escaped safely and that no Cast Members or guests were harmed.
There’s no word yet on what caused the blaze, but reports are speculating that there was some sort of fuel leak. Disney spokespeople are noting they’re still trying to figure out exactly what went wrong.
HUGE thanks to Katie C Downing for these shots — find her on instagram here! And HUGE thanks to Tasha Thomsen for the video footage!

You should be ashamed of yourself to post this video. I’m shocked at you AJ. You might lose your right to publish your blog.
Matt says
Why should she be ashamed of herself? It’s news worthy. No one was hurt.
Good Job AJ!!!

@Mia: What is your issue? There was no reason not to post this. It is pretty big news and this is a Disney website.
Also, who exactly will be taking away the right to publish the blog?
Pam says
Mia is way off base. There is NO reason why DFB should have refrained from posting the news story and subsequent video of the float fire. I think she needs to fall back, take a breath and……..have a cupcake……eeesh…..

We were at MK the day before, and watched the parade from that EXACT spot. All I can say, is thank GOODNESS we didn’t see that happen. Maleficent is my daughter’s (7 years old) absolute favorite character, and when we were told the news the next day she was hysterical. I mean, sobbing and so upset. Poor Maleficent. 🙁

people need to get a grip and realize that disney is not the bubble you make it out to be. just like the alligator incident, this is news and should be reported on. it’s a real-life place where real-life things happen. glad to see this site post some new pictures i hadn’t yet seen.
