In April of this year, Disneyland Resort announced that two brand new character meals were coming to the resort — and in true @DiningInDisney fashion, our Disneyland correspondent Heather Sievers was all over it! She enjoyed Mickey’s Tales of Adventure Breakfast Buffet (which is billed as a Brunch Buffet on weekends and select Mondays and holidays!) at Storytellers Cafe in Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel — and it. was. awesome.
This buffet brings Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Chip, and Dale in their finest adventuring attire — and Heather received this cute button on her visit, too! Doesn’t Mickey look ready for fun?
Mickey’s prepared with his hat, cargo vest, and cross-body bag. 😉 We like to think he’s packed extra cookies and krispie treats in there.
He’s also sporting these sweet hiking boots! He’s so cute I can’t even stand it.
Minnie is a little more fashion-forward, in a short trench coat and patterned shirt.
But she’s got hiking boots, too! We’re pretty sure there’s a heel on there, so maybe these aren’t the most practical hiking boots, but style is style my friends!
We love her hat, complete with a butterfly and patterned trim. She really looks fabulous.
Chip visited in a handy vest and bucket hat. He’s colorful and ready for action!
And so are the drinks! 😉 This Sparkling Californian is a mimosa sunrise, and the gradient of color is beautiful.
The Ultimate Bloody Mary is garnished with cucumber, an olive, and a lime wedge.
A Mimosa Flight is a ton of fun, featuring Raspberry, Cranberry, Peach, and Orange. It’s basically juice, right? Bring it on!
For non-alcoholic options, check out these fun agua frescas! Minnie’s first Agua Fresca is pineapple, mint, cucumber, and lime. Her second offering is watermelon, lemon, and basil. So fresh!
The set-up has large drinking glasses — so load up!
The big beverage draw here, though, is something a little more unusual: Cereal Milk. In this case, Pluto has infused milk with Fruit Loops and Cinnamon Toast Crunch! These bags of milk (bags a little awkward but interesting) are super sweet and definitely full of cereal flavor.
Prefer your milk and cereal prepared more traditionally? With, you know, cereal floating in the milk? There are small boxes of various types for you as well.
Diners will find tons of breakfast and brunch options on the buffet, including some basic pancakes and mini Mickey Waffles!
There are also bagels and cream cheese.
Bagels and lox are also available, already loaded up with cream cheese, salmon, red onions, and parsley.
The Four-Cheese Quiche is thick and creamy, with a nice crust.
Breakfast nachos are a delicious mess (but seriously — all nachos are a delicious mess).
Savory options continue with Camp Fire Loaded Potatoes. These tasty bites are packed with peppers.
A fresh Pasta Salad is available, too. And here’s a pro-tip: if you plan your breakfast for later in the morning, you can also enjoy the lunch-y brunch items and more desserts!
Chocolate Bread Pudding holds court on the sweet side of things at Mickey’s breakfast.
And there are several desserts, including Coconut Cupcakes.
These Chocolate Peanut Butter Tarts are totally rich and indulgent.
And this Chocolate Cheesecake is the height of decadence. We love the chocolate shavings and colorful flowers on top.
And what’s a Disney buffet without a fun character cupcake? Chip and Dale are celebrated here, with colorful frosting and lots of Mickey sprinkles.
It’s true: Mickey knows how to throw a breakfast/brunch buffet. And this one at Storytellers Cafe is so sweet! We love the characters in their adventuring best, and while the eats aren’t exactly off the beaten path, they’re delicious and abundant. Plus: Cereal Milk! 😉

but what about the French toast?!? is it still there? I seriously dream about that sauce…..
Eean says
We ate at the Character Breakfast there a couple of years ago, and it was good, but this looks even better!
Hayley says
Hi, looks awesome! Is it just the four characters?
Liesl says
We just ate there last Weds! We had a 9:10 reservation so nothing lunch-y and the desserts weren’t as decadent but we loved everything about it! They had Horchata that day instead of the pineapple mix. I would have loved to try that one too! We had a blast with the characters, every single one made it to our table and even though we are adults they had a lot of fun with us. Totally recommend even with a heavy price tag! (For two of us it was in the $80s, with our tip we paid $100 total)
Benjamin says
Can you give us an idea of the cost for this buffet? The Disneyland website just says $15-$60 for the Storytellers restaurant, which is less than helpful.
DFB Sarah says
Benjamin, we don’t quote prices often since they change so frequently, but the cost of the adult buffet is between $30-$60.
DFB Sarah says
Hayley, there are five: Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale, and Pluto.

When they announced those two character meals I was mostly excited for the phc grill one as a huge Donald Duck fan but this one looks not to be missed either! Man I can feel the pounds packing on just looking at these pictures, I don’t think there’s a single item there I’d be able to resist!

Johanna Martinez says
What time are the characters there?
DFB Sarah says
Johanna, they circulate throughout the breakfast/brunch hours.
catherine Girard Ratte says
Is it only a buffet or you can order food from the menu ? I want a characters meal but I get full so fast, paying for a buffet just won’t worth it for me.
DFB Sarah says
Catherine, at present it’s a buffet only.

We had the 1st seating on Sunday Sept. 16th. (2 adults)I think it was $60.00 apiece. It starts with a parade of the characters. I thought it was one of the best character breakfasts we ever had. The food was truly gourmet (they had pate!) and a vast array of options! If you couldn’t find something to your liking, you have to be the pickiest person on earth. The group at the next table had a food allergy and the chef came out to speak with them and brought out a huge plate of specific foods made just for them!
The characters spent time with every single table (even us adults)! I was very impressed with everything about this meal, from the excellent food, ambiance, decor and the service! We also sat near the front window and they only sat adults in our section. It was truly magical and enjoyable! I would definitely choose to go here again and have recommended it to others. Go on a Sunday for the brunch items!
