As you know, I am on a quest. I’d like to dine at every single Disney restaurant and try every single Disney “cult status” fan favorite still available today (sadly, that does not include beaver tails, RIP). I’d been doing a pretty good job at moving forward on my mission, but I had a few secrets I kept hidden — dishes I’d never, ever tried until this year, even though they were serious favorites of Disney guests the world over.
We like to be honest around here, so I’m going to start coming clean by giving you a list of a few Disney desserts I hadn’t really tried until my past few trips — along with what I thought of them. Ready? Here we go!
Yak and Yeti Fried Cream Cheese Won-tons
Once upon a time, a fun new restaurant in Disney’s Animal Kingdom called Yak and Yeti introduced a fun twist on the standard Asian won-ton. By stuffing won-ton skins with sweet cream cheese, frying them up, and pairing them with pineapples and sweet sauce, this is one non-chocolate dessert that will steal your heart and your taste buds.
Lots of folks claim that it’s not sweet enough, but I really enjoyed it. It’s a good, relatively light dessert to share, and the best part is: it suits hot days and cold days — perfect for all temps in WDW.
Le Cellier Smores
Billed as a kids’ dessert, most Disney veterans have at least heard about the smores if they haven’t tried them. Presentation is key here — two gourmet “graham cracker” cookies are coated in chocolate then sandwiched with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Stuck into the top of the sandwich is a rainbow-sprinkled marshmallow — the perfect “wow” dessert to make any kid feel special.
Truth is, this dessert is actually quite yummy! The gourmet twist to the graham cookies and chocolate along with the fun, colorful marshmallow will make any adult feel special, too. And, let’s be honest, after eating at Le Cellier, it’s hard to finish a full adult-sized dessert, anyway (at least it is if you’re like me and order half the appetizer menu as well as your entree). The smores dessert is the perfect portion size.
50’s Prime Time Cafe Peanut Butter and Jelly Milkshake
This nostalgic shake might sound strange to some, but it’s a die-hard favorite for a lot of Disney fans and has been on the menu for years.
When I ordered it from the standard 50’s Prime Time Cafe dessert menu (a.k.a. a Viewfinder), I was thinking I’d get a shake all swirled up with brown peanut butter and grape or strawberry jelly. In fact, it looked an awful lot like a vanilla shake with a few tell-tale specks from natural peanut butter in there. No sign of jelly in the presentation, and really not a lot of “jelly” taste in the shake either.
This is a good one if you’re a peanut butter and vanilla lover!
So, there you go — three of the classic cult favorites that I didn’t get my hands on until this year! There will be more in the series coming up, so stay tuned! 🙂

Finally tried the PB&J milkshake during a trip this past august. As a peanut butter fan, I thought it was pretty good. However, that mixed with the onion rings, fried chicken, and mashed potatoes means I am still working the meal off.
Dana says
Love those wontons at Yak and Yeti—(loved everything I had there!)—I don’t know which was better—-the wontons or mango pie—both were amazing!
Heather I. says
My husband and I are in love with the PB & J milkshake. The “recipe” is in the Delicious Disney cookbook, and that was the first thing we tried!
Alan says
Not being a dessert person, I usually skip them or let my wife have most of mine, the Yak and Yeti looks like something I would like after a big meal. Sort of reminds me of the fried ice cream that was the rage in the 80’s.
Angie says
That’s slightly disappointing news about the milkshake. Smoothie King makes a smoothie that actually does taste like PB&J.. with your choice of either strawberries or grapes mixed in. I was thinking the shake would be similar. Of course I love peanut butter, so I would probably still enjoy it anyway!

I’m stuck on your beaver tail comment at the top of the story. Fortunately, I live in Ottawa where they sell beaver tails all year long, with extra kiosks set up in the winter. There’s nothing like a hot beaver tail on a cold winter day – it’s worth getting butter, sugar and cinnamon all over your mitts!
Brandi says
I love the won-tons at Yak and Yeti! They are DELICIOUS!
Janna says
I have only had the smores of these three…honestly, I preferred the smores at 50’s Prime Time!
I hope to try the wontons one day…
Janet says
I agree with Janna – the Smores at 50’s Prime Time are much better.
I hated the candy sprinkles on the marshmellows. It did not say “smores” at all.
AJ says
Evan — Ha ha! Very good point! I saved the milkshake for dessert so I couldn’t polish it off 🙂
Dana — I think I’d pick the won-tons over the mango pie. Liked the pie, but it was kind of boring compared to the won-tons!
Heather — I’ll have to check out the recipe in the book (I had no idea it was in there!)
Alan — I LOVE fried ice cream! I wonder where you can get good fried ice cream these days…
Angie — Let me know what you think of it when you try it!
DebW — Oh, that sounds wonderful! Butter, sugar, and cinnamon are three of my favorite things!
Brandi — Thanks for the review! I agree.
Janna — I think the smores at 50’s are more authentic, to be sure. I hate when they burn them, though 🙁
Janet — Agreed — the sprinkles have to go. I’m not a big marshmallow fan, though, so I was more inclined to eat the bottom of the dessert than the top 🙂
Andrea says
The Yak and Yeti Fried Cream Cheese Won-tons are my #1 dessert at Disney. True, they aren’t as sweet as most desserts but that’s what I like about them. I also tried the famous cupcakes at Starring Rolls and could only eat a few bites….WAY too sweet!

That milkshake is so mine when I’m at 50’s Prime Time this coming March! can’t wait to try it! 🙂
Josh says
I expected that you would put the PB&J milkshake on there somewhere.
I couldn’t really eat any of those due to my LI, but I think I’d try the S’mores desert.
The place that I think has some of the neatest desserts is the ESPN Zone in Downtown Disney and of course the Main Street Bakery. 😀
Alan says
AJ – I googled fried ice cream – not much, although there was some discussion about it in the Austin area.
James says
If you take the recipe for the PBJ Milkshake and make it at home, the jelly taste is not completely overpowered by the peanut butter. Also, it tastes even better if you use a good homemade (or small ice cream shop) vanilla rather than a mass-manufactured brand of ice cream.
