You guys know how much I love Epcot’s new tequila bar, La Cava del Tequila. Located in the pyramid of Epcot’s Mexico pavilion, the Cava opened in August 2009 and has been a huge success!
The interior of this place is so cozy; it’s one of those hidden Walt Disney World gems that you just cherish once you find it. Heavy, painted furniture sits on large, rough tile. And the mural along the wall depicts the inner workings of growing and processing agave.
The bar itself is gorgeous — backlit with dozens of bottles of tequila. Who knew alcohol bottles could be so enchanting?
(For more photos of the interior, you can check out my Tequila Tasting Seminar review from October 2009.)
I met up with fellow food blogger, Andy, and his friend Sandy (rhymes!) there recently, and we shared 4 of the Cava’s delicious specialty margaritas between us. (Well, OK; I had two and they each had one, but whatever.) You all know that my favorite margarita there is the Aguacate, or avocado margarita (check out this awesome recipe!), but I wanted to try something different on this trip. (Check out a fun Disney Margarita Gallery from around Disney World here!)
We snagged the Wild Passion Fruit, Cucumber, Jalepeno, and Magic Blue margaritas and sampled them all.
My favorite was the Wild Passion Fruit and the Magic Blue (believe it or not). Both were fruity and tangy, but not too sweet. The Jalepeno was pretty incredible — those green things are real jalepeno pieces, and I really liked the interesting flavor! But it’s not really spicy — what’s up with that? I’m not a huge cucumber fan, so that one didn’t appeal to me as much (it’s Sandy’s favorite, though, so don’t discount it)!
Also, I need to give you a little sneak peek into my review of Coronado Springs Resort’s Maya Grill, because that’s where we found the Margarita Flight. This is sometimes served at La Cava del Tequila, but it’s hit or miss whether you’ll get the option when you’re there (always ask, just in case…)! Included were the lime margarita, pineapple margarita, hibiscus margarita, jalepeno margarita, and mango blueberry margarita.
I’ve been very impressed with the margaritas I’ve found at Maya Grill, La Hacienda de San Angel, San Angel Inn, and La Cava del Tequila — all restaurants owned and run by private company San Angel Inn, LLC. I’m looking forward to more great innovations in tequila from these folks!
Let me know what you think about the new margaritas in Disney World in the comments below!

I sat in that Freda chair.
When I was there it was so crowded you couldn’t move. I had the cucumber as well and was a big fan. I had no idea cucumber could go so well with a citrus flavor. Also, I’m not a tequila drinker but since I was in the bar I tried a shot. Went all out for the Milagro Select Barrel Silver (I believe… don’t quote me 100% it’s been a while). The waitress told me that this is a sophisticated sipping tequila and not one to just “pound back.” I sipped it even though the people in my crew were laughing at me. She was right. I’m so used to pounding tequila that I forgot liquor shots can be sipped and enjoyed, not just slammed.

GG — Isn’t it a great place? I forgot to mention that the best time to go is right when they open at noon. It’s probably going to be crowded at any other time. Well done with the sipping!

My favorite is the Blood Orange. Actually…it’s the only one I’ve tried, I just can’t tear myself away from it!
AJ says
Kelly — I tried the Blood Orange at San Angel Inn and loved it 🙂 Still don’t understand why they need to add foam, though. I think foam is kind of weird.

This was one of our favorite relaxing moments from our recent trip. I was so glad I took the time to search it out because Le Cava del Tequila is just awesome.
Sally says
Jalapeno, please, everytime!
If you are a tequila newbie, ask the servers questions. They love to talk about the tequilas and will help you in deciding what to try and how to drink them.
It can get very noisy and loud in La Cava, but hey, it’s a bar and that’s just the way it is. It is in Disney so droids are allowed even though they do not drink and occupy valuable space. Oh wait, that’s Mos Eisley Cantina. Wrong Park. Maybe Disney could open that Cantina in Hollywood Studios.
Kelly says
AJ: true, I can do without the foam. But I just ignore it:)
Rose says
I can’t get anyone to go with me. My son and hubby don’t drink tequila. Any other options? Do they have beer or vodka?
Sally says
Rose, La Cava serves tequilas, mezcal, margaritas and beer. I believe, not real sure since I’ve never ordered them, the beers are Sol, Bohemia, XX Amber, Tecate, XX Lager.
Rose says
Thanks Sally,
They have no excuses next time we go, hopefully in March!

Is this a place suitable to bring kids? We are going Sept ’11 with our 4 yr old and I would love to try a margarita there but not if its more of a bar…no weird looks for bringing a child in there for me thank you. lol.

I love this place and go every month when we visit. We just were there last weekend and for those of you who dislike the foam you will be happy to know that it’s gone (I liked the foam). They also informed us that just that weekend they will no longer be serving appetizers, ex. Chicken tostadas. They only have 3 to choose now; chips and salsa, chips and guacamole, and shrimp cocktail with chips. I asked and they didn’t have the margarita flight. I was a bit disappointed with the changes, but we still had a great time. I always take my daughter, who is 4 and never had a problem.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Advocado Margarita and hate to say I double fist with a Jalepeno Margarita:) It’s a great combo together. Any idea if you can order the margaritas to go?
AJ says
Amy — Yes! You can order margaritas to go! Just order at the bar. 🙂
