Each time we visit Disneyland we see more signs of the resort moving towards the elimination of single-use plastic straws. Last week we saw the first paper straws in Disneyland Park at Hungry Bear Restaurant.
This week we found paper straws at many more of Disneyland’s counter service locations, including Stage Door Cafe, Rancho Del Zocalo, and Galactic Grill. Just a few weeks ago two of these locations were still using plastic straws and lids.
Plastic straws aren’t the only items Disney is working to reduce or eliminate in the parks on both coasts. We have already seen the removal of plastic lids for cups on both coasts, the reduction of plastic shopping bags with the introduction of reusable shopping bags, and refillable resort amenities in several Disney World resorts.
The paper straws come in a paper wrapper declaring them to be earth friendly.
As Disney moves forward with their commitment to reduce plastic waste from their parks and resorts we can expect to see further elimination of single-use plastics, and the proliferation of paper straws at more dining locations on both coasts.
What do you think of Disney’s efforts so far? Have you been in a resort room with refillable amenities? Have you purchased and used the reusable shopping bags? Do you like the paper straws? Let us know in the comments below!

The paper straws are horrible and ruined my experience. When moistened, paper loses its rigidity and the paper straw ceases to function as a straw. Even worse, you end up tasting paper. I won’t pay Disney inflated prices for drinks with crappy paper straws.
Disney could instead use Sorbos edible straws, or something similar. Completely biodegradable, retains rigidity even after sucking on it, and delicious too.
