You may already be aware that Disney has announced that Disney’s Walk Around the World Bricks will soon be removed to allow for improvements for the comings and goings of guests.
The hexagonal bricks which you find along the walkways leading to Magic Kingdom and the Ticket and Transportation Center display the names of individuals and families who sponsored bricks as markers for special occasions or to “leave their mark” on Disney World.
If you are unfamiliar with the bricks or have not yet learned about their removal, you can read about it by clicking here. But if you are one of the folks who is already making plans to purchase a commemorative brick of your own, you may want to see how the in-person process works, as the commemorative versions are currently available at Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. in Magic Kingdom!
Note that you’ll also find a D-Tech location at the Marketplace Co-op in Disney Springs where you can make a purchase.
Though a screen is where you will ultimately enter your selections, several designs are on display to help you see which style you might like.
Options for customization include choosing an Art Style, personalizing your name(s) or special occasion, and adding a date.
You’ll confirm your order on the screen, then take your receipt to the register to purchase.
You can choose a 6 inch brick ($29.99) or an 8 inch brick ($49.99). Guests who originally sponsored a brick will receive a voucher to purchase their commemorative version for $10.00. The bricks will be shipped home — there is no picking them up at the location.
If you sponsored an original brick, but won’t be able to make it to Disney World before this offer ends on August 31, 2019, don’t worry! You can follow these guidelines for getting your commemorative brick online. And later this spring, the bricks will be available on ShopDisney.com even if you did not sponsor an original brick. FYI, if you had a brick and get the $10 voucher for a commemorative version, you can ONLY choose the 6″. I just did mine today and tried to get the 8″ and was told that the voucher is only good for the 6″.

I can appreciate the opportunity to purchase a “ commemorative “ stone customized to our requests but it’s still not the original stone we purchased.
There is not one of us who purchased a stone that did not spend time looking for its constantly changing location only to become excited when we found it.
To be able to obtain that original stone with our names on it to keep as a display or even in ones garden would be a way to keep the magic alive at home.
But the offer to purchase a commemorative stone as a reminder to say you once had a stone at Disney would be like buying the unused wrapper of a Mickey Bar as a reminder that you had one of those once.
Just not the same.

They just cannot pull them up one by one. That would take an excruciating amount of time and money. I doubt that the majority of people who bought the originals would want them back anyway. I’m good with the commemorative one. It’s better than the paper certificate I currently own.

I agree with Scott, just not the same. If I could have purchased the original I would have jumped right on it but a commemorative??

I agree with Scott.

Ordered my commemorative brick yesterday…..but am VERY disappointed that I don’t. have the option of getting the original, which was purchased in memory of my daughter. Would love to put it in my garden. I purchased it…..it should be mine!

For those who feel a contract is set in stone, so too are the memory’s of many of those who
purchased a stone.
To someone like Wesley their stone was more than just a stepping stone into the parks.
Call me foolish but I believe Walt Disneys vision for the parks foundation was built on and around family.
Sadly Mr Disney is no longer with us as I am sure if he was and read Wesley’s comment he would find a way to return their stone to them regardless what the contract says.

I was disappointed when we got there to make our commemrative brick they couldn’t tell us anything about it. We had to go back and forth hunting it down to take another picture to get the details right as was on our brick. Ridiculous that they don’t have a data base to pull this from. Wasted a bunch of our time and was told “just put what you want on it now”…that certainly isn’t the same as the brick we bought 25 years ago!!
Martha Watts says
I’m also disappointed that they don’t have the exact copy of what was originally written on our brick in some data base. I wonder if they have the location where our brick is located?

Well today I had a call from my daughter who was on holiday in Florida looking for our family stone ,as we travelled to Florida and Disney a lot as a family she wanted to share her memories of Disney magic with her two year old as her dad passed away when she was just 7 years old and this is our happy place and reminded her massively of him only to find that it had been destroyed and not only that that they had offered a commemorative stone to others but because we live in the uk and wouldn’t get any media coverage of this we missed the deadline by a month no correspondence or anything sent to our address so we could make one more visit before this was taken forever away from our memories feel so devastated today 😪😪
