Today, my friends… we made it behind THIS Wall.
THIS is the entrance to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios!!! As guests at a special Walt Disney World media event, we were able to enter the land which will open to guests on August 29, 2019!
Though pictures were, understandably, not permitted, we’d love to share our thoughts about our very first steps on the planet Batuu…
Our very first thought? WOW, you guys… IT’S GOING TO BE INCREDIBLE.
Our group entered by the Grand Avenue entrance and directly into the outskirts of the village that makes up Black Spire Outpost.
We were surrounded by rock walls, but also plants and vegetation as you’ll find on Batuu. Lanterns have been installed and they are insanely well themed — they are tall and green, but the main impression is that they look like they are hundreds of years old.
After walking in, to the left was Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance — the attraction which will open later this year in a second phase opening (Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will open on Day One — August 29th — with the rest of the land.) Rise of the Resistance is going to be MASSIVE. The best words to describe it might be that it was like walking in front of an IMAX screen, it’s just HUGE.
We also got to check out some of those famous Disney details… we spotted LOTS of footprints near the entrance belonging to a creature on Batuu (the prints were elephant-like). We were told that the land itself (as we can understand even more now) will be like an attraction in and of itself because it’s so detailed.
Though we entered via Grand Avenue, we were informed that the view from Toy Story Land will be a little more wide-scale — like 360 degrees (which is hard to believe, because our vantage point was already insanely cool). We were also informed that pretty much the only difference between Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios in comparison to Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland (which will open first on May 31, 2019) are the entrances into the land.
It’s almost time to “LIVE YOUR STAR WARS STORY,” my friends!
May the Force Be With You!!

Words cannot express my excitement level for this. How finished did it look in your opinion at first glance?
DFB Sarah says
Jarod, the rock formations were well-formed, but most of the exteriors are very much works in progress. Still a construction site, for sure!
