Hello from Disney’s Animal Kingdom! We’re bringing you What’s New — and it’s not a whole lot, but you’ll want to come along for some primate news. And primate puns. So get off the monkey bars, and let’s go play!
What’s New in Animal Kingdom Monkey Business
If you’re hanging around Animal Kingdom’s Asia, prepare for a little less monkeying around. The water has been drained from around one of the siamang gibbon habitats! (For the sake of the puns, we’re using the term ‘monkey’, but many of you have rightfully pointed out that siamangs are a type of gibbon.)
We’re not sure what the (mon)key to this refurbishment is, but we’ll keep an eye on it and share the ‘tail’ as it unfolds.
The siamangs have been moved during this process, and we’re not sure howl long they’ll be gone.
Okay, we’re done now.
What’s New in Animal Kingdom Food News
The colorful Bird Cupcake is available in Creature Comforts and Restaurantosaurus now. We gave you a sneak beak at it recently. (We said we were done with monkey puns — no one promised anything about birds!)
Over at Yak & Yeti Local Foods Cafe, the Daily Chef Special is Sweet & Sour Tempura Shrimp right now. This limited time only dish comes with jasmine rice and golden crisp tempura shrimp. It sounds great, so we hope it nama-stays around for a while!
And in case you were wondering, Mike Wazowski still hasn’t returned to the monster world. You can find his sipper at various locations around the park.
That’s it from Animal Kingdom! We’ll be swinging from Park to Park, so stick around for more What’s New from Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort!

So the siamangs are apes not monkeys! They have no tail which makes them an ape also I’m a cast member so we are told to correct people!!

Many thanks to those of you who pointed out that siamangs are not monkeys — they’re gibbons. I added a note to the post, and I’m keeping the puns. 😉

I am gutted the Siamangs are not there at the moment. I love the girls and will spend an absolute age watching them. I correct people all the time re “not a monkey”. I know eventually they will be split up but have watched them since they were young. Hope it is just a necessary clean up and not a goodbye

Why does so much of Disney’s food have cheese in it? I’m sure I’m not the only person allergic to it. Not all dairy, just cheese.
Kim says
It’s not just the Siamangs that are absent! I have noticed (I am in WDW right now) that the only primates left are the gorillas. I am so disappointed that there seem to be no monkeys or apes. I really hope there’s not some illness that’s affecting them! Cast members seem not to know either.

Kim, we saw the Cotton Top Tamarins on our visit.
