opens in under a week (that’s wild to say!!), and one new technology in the land will fit right in the palm of your hand: your cell phone! That’s because your smartphone will transform into a datapad when you enter Black Spire Outpost. It’s all part of the Play Disney Parks app, and the latest update of the app — live NOW — allows users to interact with the Star Wars Datapad features for Galaxy’s Edge!
Upon opening the app, you’ll navigate to the Disneyland map where you’ll notice a few new images on the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge portion of the map. (You can take a closer look around Galaxy’s Edge on the app by clicking here.)
You’ll see a small blue star by the Millennium Falcon, and we’ll take a look at that shortly. But first we’re going to talk about what happens when you select the orange image above the Rivers of America. That leads you to this:
At this time, not all features are active (indeed, some won’t be until users set foot on Batuu). But it’s highly advised that, if you are planning to utilize the app in the land, you check things out before you arrive. And you’ll want to because there is a lot you can familiarize yourself with before you enter Black Spire Outpost!
As the introduction screen mentions, you can “Learn about the many functions of the Star Wars: Datapad — and explore your profile — before arriving at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!” And once you’re in, you’re presented with the option to “Learn More About My Datapad”! Yes, please!
Three options on the bottom of the datapad screen — Tools, Jobs, and Map — are learn-only at the moment (and will be until entering the land, presumably), but you can scroll through to learn more about any of the features (and start daydreaming about how you’ll apply these features in the land!).
Jobs will provide users with a list of possible tasks from which to choose while you’re in Black Spire Outpost “for the residents of Black Spire Outpost.”
And Map gives you information about where you can use some of the tools you’ll select (so you’re not wandering completely blind!).
And there is something more you can do… you CAN actively explore options for your Profile!
Remember that Galaxy’s Edge will interact with users as they move about the land, so when you select your Equipment, make good choices! 😉 Equipment options include selecting your Outfit, Weapon, Cargo, and Parts & Scraps.
Other features you can check out under Profile include Schematics, Droid Data and Transmissions. These are expected to populate and activate as you interact with the land. We’re especially keen to find out more about those Transmissions!
The options are, in a word, EXTENSIVE, and we love how thorough the interactions appear to be. Plus, the personalization helps to make you a part of the action!
Okay, now for that blue star we mentioned next to the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs. If you select it…
You’ll be able to read a bit about how to earn a special digital achievement by riding the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction.
There is a TON of stuff to go through on here… so you can play now to get ready to PLAY SOON in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!
