Hope you’re enjoying a great weekend so far! We’re back with another DFB Video this weekend, and we’re talking about things we expected to hate in Walt Disney World… but didn’t!
Admittedly, things like waiting in long lines for rides and unpredictable weather give us cause for concern over what might not go so well in Walt Disney World. But there are plenty of things we were uncertain about — or were even concerned we wouldn’t like — in Walt Disney World that have turned out better than expected… in some cases, much better! We hope you’ll enjoy hearing about them in our latest DFB YouTube Video!
And if you love this video, there’s plenty more for you to enjoy over on our DFB YouTube Channel!

Now, I haven’t been to mouseland in a few years, but I did have an experience with fastpass+ and my phone, that people might want to think about. I had made the three fastpass+ reservations for the day, including one that we really wanted to see (I think it was Soarin’ over California). Anyway, I was checking the reservation on my phone, but I was having a hard time reading the screen outdoors, and I hit the delete button by accident. And of course, I couldn’t get another FP+ for that ride during the day.
I don’t know if FP+ has changed since then, but I really hated to have to make 3 FP+ reservations at once. I would have preferred to make the E-ticket FP+ first, and then fill in the other 2 later. IIRC, you could only change the FP+ reservations in a block (i.e. you might lose the E-ticket FP+ if you wanted to change the other two). I also disliked that you couldn’t make one morning FP+ reservation in one park and an evening reservation in another park.
While I can understand why they have to list characters are and even pre-book with FP+, I think there was some charm in them randomly walking around the park, and you would never know who you would encounter. Of course I am speaking as the father of a now 30+ year old that never fixated on a single character, and didn’t really get into the character signing thing.
In terms of characters, I still morn the loss of one of our favorite restaurants (Akershus Royal Banquet Hall) due to an infestation of princesses. We went once after the change, and never again. Adding the princesses changed the whole tenor of the meal from a quiet smorgasbord to lots of squealing, crowding, etc. Its been awhile, but I have to imagine that when the princesses invaded, they needed to tone down the menu to eliminate some of the more unusual items (which is why we liked it in the first place).
Now, I’m not against all Character meals, I think many times, Disney does them well (for example Donald’s Dining Safari in Tusker House is one that is done well, and when we did the 1900 Park Fair with Mary Poppins & Alice a few years ago, it too was great). But when a character meal replaces a previously non-character meal, it can be a problem.
As I get older (62), I find many of the queue lines are too long to stand in. If it involves more than 20-30 minutes of standing, I just won’t be able to do it. Now, I know others have it worse than me (such as my wife, whose limit is about 5 minutes and needs an ECV to navigate the park), but still I wish there was an option to standing in line for long periods of time.
