There’s some big health news that you need to be aware of if you’re headed to Disney World in the next two months.
According to Orange County Florida Health, “The Florida Department of Health in Orange County is issuing a 60-day rabies alert for a two (2) mile radius around the intersection of Interstate 4 and Epcot Center Drive in southwest Orange County.”
This alert was issued yesterday, July 9, after a feral cat tested positive for the disease.
Since this cat may have been in contact with other animals, the Florida Department of Health recommends avoiding contact with feral cats, stray dogs, and other wildlife while in this area.
So, make sure to be on the lookout for you and your furry friends as well.

Last year at pop, I saw a cat while walking around the lake!
I thought that it was so weird to see a cat at Disney!

I’m confused. The alert was issued yesterday, June 8th?? But today is July 11th.

Lourie, thanks! I updated the post.

That’s scary, but just like snakes and gators, WDW is huge and yes, there is wildlife everywhere. Guests need to use common sense.
Leonie says
The only animals we’ve ever seen on site are some rabbits who live in the undergrowth at Art of Animation and the billions of ducks around the parks!
Vivienne houry says
I have seen a snake and an armadillo at Pop century
Lori M Poteet says
I always see at least one or two cats in the parking lot of bay lake. They cant there to catch mice…Mickey would not approve and he is the boss.
Carri says
What does this mean for service dog handlers? I am planning to go to the magic kingdom in mid August….should I leave my service dog at home?
DFB Sarah says
Carri, you’ll want to call Disney directly for this question.
