The amazing Sarah Holodick is back with more mouth-watering food reviews!! Sarah stopped by the Friar’s Nook and Pinocchio’s Village Haus on a recent trip to the Magic Kingdom in Disney World. Stay tuned next week for another review from Sarah of a spot not too far from these two… . Take it away, Sarah!Friar’s Nook: Freshly Made Potato Chips
When I heard about Friar’s Nook serving freshly made potato chips, I knew I had to give them a try. I was very happy to find out that they are available with toppings as well. There are two varieties available: chili and cheese; or cheese, bacon, and ranch. They had me at bacon, so here are the chips in all their cheesy, bacony, ranchy glory!
These chips were delicious! The potatoes are cut a bit on the thick side and fried to crunchy, golden brown perfection. They are lightly salted then smothered with plastic cheese, tasty ranch, and crispy bacon.
Needless to say these chips didn’t last very long! They were a perfect snack — non-greasy, and surprisingly light. I think it will be difficult to take a trip to the Magic Kingdom without placing an order for these!
Editor’s Note: Some say these are the replacement for Figaro Fries…yay or nay?
The Pinocchio Village Haus: Mediterranean Salad
After seeing Bill Iadonisi’s review last month here on DFB, I couldn’t stop thinking about that Mediterranean Salad. I was in Magic Kingdom and wanted a quick, light lunch, so I headed over to the Haus to give it a try.
I was very impressed by this salad. The veggies were fresh and crisp, there was more chicken than I had anticipated, and the mozzarella was creamy. The roasted red peppers were a nice addition as well. The salad was filling and an overall good value worth ordering again.

Those potato chips look a lot like the lost Figaro Fries! The salad looks tasty! I’ll have to remember that if I’m every around Fantasyland at lunch time!
Kelly says
Oh…those chips are going on my list!!
Steve from Military Disney Tips says
OMG , those chips look amazing! I usually avoid Fantacyland midday, but perhaps a snack before lunch?
Katy says
Those chips look amazing! Next time I’m in Fantasyland I’ll be sure to try the chili and cheese kind.
John B says
Those chips look beyond fantastic. Added to the “must” list for next time!
Jeff C. says
HEY! How did I not know about those chips??!! GAH! Adding to list for Fall trip. Thanks!!
Josh says
Definitely not a replacement for Figaro Fries, given that was a masterpiece in and of itself. As of right now, it really is the closest thing to Figaro Fries on Magic Kingdom property.
Wonderful review Sarah!
Josh says
Would the chips count as a Snack on the DDP?
Tina Wiggins Delaney says
This is DEFINITELY on my list for the next trip. Are the plain ones a snack credit? I’m figuring the ones with the toppings are too expensive to count as a snack….Will have to investigate! 🙂
Tracy says
I wanted to try the new chips from Friar’s Nook on our last trip in December, but it was never open when we went by. I don’t think it was because of rehabs, but hopefully it will be available to try next month when I visit again.
Galloping Gourmand says
Nothing, nothing at all is better than fresh potato chips. I am seeking these out next time I’m down at WDW.
James says
Definitely not Figaro Fries, but it’s fresh potato chips so I don’t care! I can’t wait to try them!
Damian says
Unfortunately the chips featured above are no longer offered at the Friar’s Nook. This is upsetting news to many as they were a fav amongst CM’s
Evan says
I had the same issue as Tracy. I went by there a few times in August and January to try these chips and it was always closed. It seems to only open during peak times from what I heard.
AJ says
Damian — No kidding?! That must be a really recent development! How sad!
Damian says
@ AJ, yeah, was crushed the other day when I walked up and the menu was changed. Makes me think that perhaps this location is being used as a testing spot for new QSR locations that will be within Fantasyland after the expansion. I wish they would just keep these chips though cause they were indeed amazing. On top of the bacon cheese and ranch, the chili cheese ones were good as well, just a bit heavier.
AJ says
Damian — Total bummer! But interesting if this spot is indeed being used as a test location… 🙂 Keep me in the loop if you see anything new, will ya? Where are you usually working?
Lillian C. says
Ok, I need to try these potato “chips”. I’m not very familiar with Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom as I am with Disneyland’s Fantasyland. Where is the Friar’s Nook? (near what attraction?) Sorry about asking such a novice question amongst you wonderful wdw experts : )
Damian says
@AJ I’m actually based underground amongst other food aficianados in Workforce Management. We love to explore this site and figure out where to eat. I’m like a Disney Food Guru to them. I’ll definitely keep you posted, especially since I make a daily stop by this site.
