The Hatbox Ghost Tiki Mug has re-materialized in both Disney World and Disneyland Resort! And this year, a few other limited edition Hatbox Ghost items were released with it!
We hopped into our doombuggies EARLY this morning to head to Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace in Disney World to get our wristbands. The line began piling up as other eager mortals awaited these highly anticipated items. Soon the wristbands were ALL GONE for the day, but luckily they will be available tomorrow. You can read more about our line experience and how to snag a wristband tomorrow here.
After waiting in line for our wristband, we then “kindly stepped all the way in” line for the Hatbox Ghost Ornament and the Limited Edition Hatbox Ghost Pin. These items began selling at BouTiki at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort at 9 AM and at Disney’s Fantasia Shop at the Disneyland Hotel at 7 AM.
Hatbox Ghost Ornament
The Hatbox Ghost Ornament, pin, and mug come in two different styles depending on where it is purchased.
In Walt Disney World, the items feature an “empty hat box with his head placed safely on his shoulders.” At Disney World, he is also more of a teal green color.
The size was a bit larger than we were anticipating and the detailing was incredible! Well worth the $24.99 in our opinion. It even says Memento Mori on the back!
And the bottom reads “2nd edition Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto.”
In Disneyland, the ornament, pin, and mug feature “the Hatbox Ghosts head inside his handy hat box.” And this option is more of a sandy tan color.
Not able to wait in line? Or, not planning on traveling from coast to coast to get BOTH ornaments? Well, if you hurry, both versions Hatbox Ghost Ornament may still be available online!! Get all the details here.
Limited Edition Hatbox Ghost Pin
The Limited Edition Hatbox Ghost Pin ($17.99) in Disney World also shows off the Hatbox Ghosts face! This silver pin features an extravagant amount of detailing on our pal, Hatbox Ghost!
While the pin in Disneyland has the Hatbox Ghost’s face in the hat box once again!
Hatbox Ghost Tiki Mug in Disneyland
We dragged our bodies to the “dead center” of the South Lounge of the Disneyland Hotel Convention Center to purchase our Hatbox Ghost Tiki Mug this morning. The line opened at 5 AM and the mugs are being distributed today from 7 AM to 7 PM. The mugs are also available at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar with the purchase of The Grim Grinning Grog — which you can read our review of here.
This year’s Hatbox Tiki Mug is a tan color and has the Hatbox Ghost’s head in his hat box. While we were purchasing our Hatbox Tiki Mug in Disneyland, we noticed that they were also selling last year’s Hatbox Tiki Mug along with the Golden Phiranna Tiki Mug.
We waited for an hour and fifteen minutes and were able to snag our Tiki Mug with no problems here. And there still seemed to be an abundance of mugs available for purcahse.
Hatbox Ghost Tiki Mug in Disney World
This was not the case in Disney World, as all of the wristbands had been distributed by 11 AM. If you weren’t able to get one today, don’t fret! Disney will begin distributing wristbands again tomorrow at 9 AM.
The Disney World Hatbox Ghost Mug ($80.00) was available for purchase at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto beginning at 1PM. Soooo, we lined back up and waited again!
This mug is a teal color and like the ornament, features Hatbox Ghost’s head place safely upon his shoulders. Like at Disneyland, this has to be purchased with the Grim Grinning Grog.
Just like years past, guests pay for their mug and drink with a server. They then take their receipt and head to a table where they will be given the mug in a box. At this time, a Cast Member will assist you in removing your wristband and then you can hurry back home with your new buddy!
Guests will have the option to sit at a table or stand in line at the window when purchasing their drink. We suggest choosing the table because we actually were able to get our cocktail before the first person waiting in line for the window received theirs.
Now, let’s take a look at the mug’s details! It reads “Memento Mori 1702” on the back.
And the bottom reads, “2nd Edition Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto.”
We’re dying over how bone-chillingly adorable this mug is. Are you?

Are there two editions of the pin? I’ve seen a design with no face and the face on the shield, as well as a design with a face and just a zig zag design on the shield on eBay. Not sure if one is a knockoff or Disney Land and Disney world has different versions.
