While Disney World is still celebrating Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, it’s almost time for the Magic Kingdom to make its Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party transformation!
And with the Christmas season right around the corner, Disney has just announced when they will be filming the BIG ABC and Disney Channel holiday television specials!
Disney will begin filming their holiday television specials on Thursday, November 7th. They will be recording musical performances and stage show segments at the Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Filmings will also take place on Saturday, November 9th and Sunday, November 10th, although there’s no word on what time these filmings are scheduled to occur. And please remember all dates are subject to change.
There’s also no specific details yet on who this year’s MCs or musical performers are, but as we’ve seen in past years, there’s usually some A-list celebs!
We also haven’t heard anything yet about when the filming at Disneyland Resort in California will be taking place, but we’ll keep you updated!

Oh my gosh, we’ll be there then!!! This is so exciting!

I wonder, though, how does this typically affect crowds? Will it be busier? Will they limit the amount of people they let in?
Doug says
I’ve been there during the filming before. Some additional people may show up for the filming, but I don’t think it will have a noticeable impact on crowds (honestly the vast majority of people prob won’t even know it’s happening until they get to the park and see the signage). If anything, people already at the parks will probably flock to the area while they are filming, so it may mean slightly lower wait times at rides away from the filming area, etc. It DOES create issues on Main Street or wherever they are filming though, due to the stage, cameras, etc. I’d just suggest avoiding the areas they are filming in as best you can.

Hopefully after filming is done the castle isn’t blocked off. I booked a week later this year because most of the castle was blocked off for our trip last year!
Christy says
Were were there 2 years ago for a day of filming (we will also be there this year for a day of filming).
They let a bunch of red & green clad ‘fans’ in in the morning to sit all day in front of the castle to clap etc. for filming. They don’t ride rides as they have to stay in the roped off areas so it doesn’t really affect line ups. They do ‘takes’ all day and you’ll hear the music & fireworks go off every 10 minutes or so as they get the best angles etc.
Lots of energy and Christmas Spirit on those days. A Few big names are always there dancing and hosting the filmed event!

My husband and I will be there Thursday the 7th and Sunday the 10th 🙂 Hope we can catch some of the extra Magic!
Darby says
Oh dear. I hope this doesn’t affect our Fastpasses and ADR at Be Our Guest.
DFB Sarah says
Darby, it shouldn’t!
Melly says
I’ve never been to WDW when they are filming the Christmas special! Do they only film at MK? Thursday the 7th is my Epcot day, though I do have a few hours where I could hop over to MK. Is it worth trying to park hop to catch some of the filming?
Mr. John says
Everyone is so lucky to be able to go to “Disney ” for the filming of the Christmas show . I watch it ever year from my living room in my comfortable recliner with my family . It is not the same maybe some day I will retire and be able to experience it ,it would be something else . Have a great time I will be watching 😀😀😀
DFB Sarah says
Melly, the info says they’ll be filming shows at Hollywood Studios, too. I guess if it’s worth it depends on what you like to spend your time doing!
Mama K says
Melly, I know they are filming at MK Nov 9 from 11-4. My daughter is a cast member and will be in the audience. I don’t know the schedule for the other parks.
Tony says
Thank you for the information I would’ve not known if not for you and I am Lucky enough to be here next three months so I definitely going
Alison says
We will be there on the 10th. I saw a schedule and it was basically from 11am – midnight they will be filming at MK. How will this affect the fireworks at 9? Will we just not get to see them since they will be filming for the show?
