It’s true! Animal Kingdom gets wilder every time we’re there!
We were enjoying a leisurely stroll up to the park entrance when we came face to face with something we weren’t exactly prepared to see…at least outside of one of the theme park’s exhibits!
We spotted THIS GUY…and he gave us a little start to be sure!
EEP! Yep, it’s always good to be reminded that central Florida is a HAVEN for reptiles, including gators and these little beauties. We’re guessing he’s a black racer snake — very common to the area and completely harmless (unless you’re a snake or a tree frog, that is).
We spotted him here on the walkway to the Animal Kingdom.
And this is an excellent time to remind you that even though you may be in the “Disney Bubble,” you’re still in a real place and in the real world!
Due to its swampland status, Disney World has plenty of snakes, gators, and other wildlife that you should be aware of. Keep an eye on your kiddos — even in the theme parks — and stay aware.

Have you seen any interesting unexpected creatures while visiting Disney World?
Nancy Dalton says
I’ve seen a couple of rabbits at MK and Epcot, and an armadillo at the TTS on the green between the resort Monorail and the ferry.

We were camping at Fort Wilderness once. When we took the kids ‘ tent down to leave there was a beautiful blue flat as a pancake snake under it. Dead as can be, it was evidently in the wrong place at the wrong time lol

Back in 1999, when I was about 4 or 5, we were on a walk by the Grand Floridian at night and I guess I wandered off a bit. When I came back I had a handful of what I thought were chicken eggs. They were not chicken eggs they were alligators eggs, according to my mom. Needless, to say my mom was freaked out and she had me put them back right away and we washed my hands (probably gave me a full on bath) and went back to the hotel! I was a fun kid!!

Back in 2010 while on family trip what looked like a burmese python crossed my path through shrubbery as I looked on from the last few steps leaving the Port Orleans hotel room. I did alert the office staff right after, as that was where I was on my way too anyway. So glad my 3 girls were still I the room. However, I was in shock as snakes are a fear of mine; I am glad our hotel room was up 3 flights of stairs, but I spent the remainder of our trip looking down watching everywhere I walked. I did alert the office staff right after, as it was where I was on my way too anyway.

Natpope, I am cringing reading this story!
Natpope says
Sarah if it is any consolation my 2 younger daughters participated in the Disney internship program, lived onsite for 3 months with no complaints, and they had a wonderful experience!
DFB Sarah says
Natpope, that’s terrific!

Yes, a smooth greensnake decided to wrap around my flip flop sandal near the Yeti water ride.
Another visit a black racer large and long decided to come meet me on the stairway coming off the train that circles the park. I was going down, he was going up.
I guess I’m St. PATRICK. THEY ARE ATTRACTED TO ME. I’m screaming and the park personnel pick them up and tell me they’re not poisonous.
Who cares? If they bite me I’ll have a heart attack and die anyway!
DFB Gigi says
Oh no, Antoinette! Were you wearing the sandal at the time? I’m glad you weren’t bitten!
