Sometimes you come across a new snack item in Disney World and you’re really really really excited and you can’t wait to try it…
…and then you finally have time to get back over to Liberty Square Market to indulge in what you know is going to be an amazing new savory snack…
…and it’s vegetarian and that’s exciting so you can’t wait to try it and what if it’s too HOT since it’s been FRIED in OIL and that’s going to taste AWESOME…
…and it even LOOKS delicious, all bright yellow and yummy, and it’s bound to taste amazing since we ARE getting into corn season after all and how can you go wrong when you take something delicious and fry it in oil?!?…
…and then you’re finally done taking pictures so you can actually take a bite…
…and you realize that it doesn’t really taste all that good after all.
Yep — total let-down. Sorry to get your hopes up, but I had to bring you along on the journey with me (misery loves company!).
Honestly, it probably would have tasted better if they hadn’t fried it and had instead simply sold boiled sweet corn, which is a pretty incredible snack if we’re being honest. And it would have been healthier, too. So sad to see all that oily goodness go to waste.
Sigh.
Maybe the rest of you will have a better experience. Let me know what you think if you try it!

Might have suspected as much, if the Chili Lime corn on the cob at Disneyland was any indication. I thought that stuff would be the bomb and it was just mushy corn on the cob with weird powder all over it. I’m with you – quick boil some sweet corn, ram a stick in it and call it done. It’ll be way better than messing with Mother Nature (and holding it in a warmer for hours on end).

maybe if they had fried it in butter? or maybe had a bit of breading or batter? i’m going to look for that this summer when i’m there, scope out whether anyone looks like they are enjoying it!

That’s too bad… Funny thing is that boiled sweet corn is a popular snack stand item here in Romania! I haven’t had the guts to try it yet…
Jen says
I just soak the corn in water for a few minutes, then throw it, husk and all in a 350-400 degree oven (depends on what else I’m cooking) for 30 minutes or so. Sometimes I’ll do it on the grill instead. Much healthier.

The best corn on the cob is done on a charcoal grill while being basted with melted butter. I don’t like to boil the flavor out of my food.

I saw the title and was actually excited about it, too! Well, I guess everything they do can’t be perfect! LOL.
JoAnn says
I’m surprised it didn’t start popping when it was put in the oil.

One year, during the Food and Wine Festival, they had grilled corn in the husk outside of The Land. It was FABULOUS! However, it sounds much different than what you are describing here. Sorry, you were disappointed.

I love roasted corn on the cob (on the bbq in the husk) it’s one of my favorite snacks every year at fair time.. I thought like you, reading this post it sounded awesome. So sad it was a let down.

Maybe they are using the wrong oil to fry in? I’ve had decent fried corn on the cob before.
Christina says
Cheese – just cover it in cheese and it will be better! 😉

EEP! As a Nebraskan, I am cringing. This is the equivilant of sticking a steak in the deep fryer (unless it is bad corn, of course, and if that is the case, even frying it won’t help). Fresh boiled and dipped in butter is the way to go.

Corn just doesn’t seem like the kind of food that needs to be fried. Greasy corn?!

Caprice — Agreed on the warmer!! Ew. Thanks for the tip on the DL corn, too.
Vicki — OOH! Fried in butter. That sounds awesome. Or just slathered in butter…that works, too.
Jeremy — If you try it, let me know! Are you originally from Romania, or just working there?
Jen — And tastier!!
Greg — I’m comin’ to YOUR house for a BBQ this summer!
Allison — Yep. I totally bought into it. 😉
JoAnn — I thought the same thing, but then realized it would need to be dry corn kernels to pop. Right? I say this with authority, but I have no idea. 😉
Michelle — Let’s hope they bring that back!
Jennifer — Yep — for realz! I think roasted corn on the cob would be a great idea over there in Liberty Square. They had fire back then, right? 😉
GG — How is fried corn on the cob supposed to taste? I would love to try some decent stuff. Sounds decadent!
Christina — Well, that’s when you go to Paradiso 37 and get the crazy corn!! Just had it again this weekend. YUMMO!
Courtney — Exactly! It has to be GOOD corn, and then just the basics!
Lisa — I know, right? Who wants greasy corn…unless it’s greasy with butter!

I don’t know how I overlooked this post. I was reading it line by line to my wife and as I was reading it she was dialing the reservation number. Oh, snap ” …and you realize that it doesn’t really taste all that good after all” made her hang up the phone. Too bad, I’ll go back to sticking corn back in the Bar-b-que grill.
