Magic Happens is about to make history as it becomes Disneyland’s newest daytime parade!
And while you’ll have to wait until February 28th to stake out your viewing spot for Magic Happens first shimmy down Main Street U.S.A. (or you can just snag a Magic Happens dining package which INCLUDES reserved viewing!) we had the opportunity to check a few things out a little early!
We’ve already seen some of the artists’ renderings of the new floats and sketches of the costumes performers will be wearing when Magic Happens debuts, but we’ve learned so many new details about the parade and now we’re more excited than EVER!
Magic Happens took 2 and a half years from concept to completion — so you can imagine how much heart, soul, and Disney’s signature attention to detail they’ve put into it!
Disney used three main words for inspiration while creating Magic Happens — contemporary, artistic and whimsical. The modern soundtrack co-written by recording artist and performer Todrick Hall and choreography best embodies the contemporary feel Disney was going for, while the artistic element comes through in the fashion-forward costumes and floats which they described as “moving pieces of art.” Whimsical qualities are exemplified by “Disney magic” which is both whimsical and joyous!
Although you’ll have to wait to see the stunning new floats, to us, they look almost exactly like drawings! There are so many techniques used and details to look at! We also saw the new costumes in person. These feature stunning textures, fabrics, and a mixture of materials such as metallic heat pressed-vinyl that’s made to look like metal, laser cutting, riveting, and heavily embroidered elements!

Mickey’s float will come out first adorned with ribbons and waves of magic! The dancers will represent aspects of magic in their wardrobe and movement. And Mickey will be accompanied by Minnie, Goofy, and Chip ‘n Dale all outfitted in similar matching purple costumes like we’ve never seen before! They’re definitely more on the abstract side than the classic, traditional attire we’re used to seeing them in!
Moana is next and it’s true artistry in motion! Her float has huge, flexible LED screens that play images of the ocean’s waves! Disney says they wanted guests to see the magic of the ocean through Moana’s eyes! There are also tons of hidden Easter eggs to look for!
And while Maui and Pua will be chillin’ on their own little float (you’re welcome), we’re the MOST excited to see the remote-controlled Hei-Hei in his spinning basket along with performers dressed like the Kakamora!
Following Moana, we’ll get to see Coco! Miguel’s family are amazingly-detailed animatronics while the dancers are dressed as alebrije or like Miguel’s spirit animal, Dante!
After Coco, you’ll finally get to see the Frozen 2 chapter of the parade! The new Frozen 2 float was worked on simultaneously by the same production team that made the film! It features a new color scheme with a “fall-look” and even has an animatronic Sven on the back! Disney also told us “Elsa will be making it snow” — while we’re not exactly sure what this means, we can’t wait to see it! You’ll see performers representing nature made to look like trees with fantastic special effects makeup!
And now the grand finale! For the big ending of the Magic Happens parade, the storytellers wanted to include lots of Disney characters while freezing them in magical moments in time! You’ll get to see Cinderella with a stained glass music box float that looks like a pumpkin!
There will also be The Sword in the Stone’s float. Arthur will be pulling the sword out of the stone, you know, just like in the movie!
A Princess and the Frog float will be next and it’s an exact replica of the one from the film. The colors of this one are especially stunning!
And the last float will be Sleeping Beauty-themed! Princess Aurora will be wearing a dress that shifts from pink to blue with some new technology! Her royal float is also embellished with a super shiny gold finish and almost 100 unique tapestries!
We can’t wait to see Magic Happens retell some of our favorite classic Disney stories and along with some new stories that haven’t been told in parades yet! We’ll be reporting live from Disneyland for Magic Happens inaugural run, so stay tuned!
