In light of the announced closure of Walt Disney World theme parks in response to concerns about the Coronavirus, Disney is providing information for upcoming guests who may be adjusting their travel plans.
As a reminder, the closure is set to begin “at the close of business on Sunday, March 15th, through the end of the month.” At this time, Resort hotels and Disney Springs will remain open for guests.
As per the screenshot below from the Walt Disney World website, Disney shares the following in regards to ticket purchases: “Unexpired multi-day theme park tickets with unused days, or date-specific theme park tickets with a start date on or before March 31, 2020 will automatically be extended to use any date through December 15, 2020. If you are unable to visit by December 15, 2020 you may apply the value of a wholly unused ticket toward the purchase of a ticket for a future date.”
Here, Disney also addresses Florida Resident Discovery Tickets, stating that they “may be used through July 31, 2020.”
In regards to extra-ticket events such as Disney After Hours, Disney Villains After Hours, and Disney Early Morning Magic, those purchases will be automatically refunded for dates from March 16, 2020 through March 31, 2020.
We will continue to keep our readers posted throughout the day as information becomes available.
We here at DFB have been tracking the steps that Disney has taken around the parks to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. You can learn more about that here.

Well, its our last day of a week here and fortunate to not have planned a week later. If you were not aware of the Corona Virus you would never had known as crowds were as busy as usual and even more crowded at some times. In fact, my wife and I said never again in March(spring break time) as many parks super packed and waits as long as we have seen them in yrs. Lines for food, 20 mins we waited for mobile order at Pecos Bills! My opinion on closure and extension of annual pass holders of which we are, is that even though it opens in a few weeks, how many actually will want to come? How many want to fly vs need to fly? I felt bad seeing families arriving at resorts yesterday only to hear bad news of Sunday closure. The pressure is on Disney now, not just from a financial aspect as they will be hit hard, but how they respond to the customer and their losses.

Do your tickets auto extend or do you need to contact WDW guest services? We have tickets for next week but obviously that’s not happening anymore … want to make sure we can use in the future
Amanda says
Really disappointed in their ticket refund policy. For our group, my oldest daughter and husband won’t be able to travel at all for the rest of the year. I’ll have $800 alone in their tickets, sitting in limbo. Our dates at the end of the month was the only time they could’ve gone. It was for my birthday. Yeah, I can use the adult ticket another time.. but we waited almost a year for this time to come. We recently upgraded our two day passes to four day passes. When I visit with just my youngest, we only use two day passes. She’s free because she’s underage so we don’t need the child ticket purchased anymore. It’s just a waste of time and money now. We won’t need four day passes in the future.. it’s just hurting the families that scraped money together to make the trips happen.. now we’re without a trip and money. They should allow full ticket refunds that are linked to hotel stays.

What about annual pass holders? Will we get an extension in the expiration date?

Are there any updates on how Disneyland tickets are being handled?
DFB Sarah says
Rose, Disney addressed this yesterday. Click here for info.

Emily, you might wait for the current fervor to settle a bit and try giving Disney a call to confirm.
Kim Schmidt says
Will WDW tickets purchased thru Undercover Tourist and linked to My Disney Experience be extended until 12/15/20 as if they were purchased directly thru Disney? Do we need to contact Undercover Tourist for assistance?
DFB Sarah says
Kim, I’d reach out to Undercover Tourist. Sorry — I haven’t heard the answer for this one yet. If you do get a response, let us know!

We Bought four day park ticket passes for Disney World for May 11 through the 15th I do believe will we get a refund or will they extend even if Disney is open and people are still a little worried about going.Thank you

The fact that the airlines, hotels and all other out of pocket, pay in advance businesses have returned our groups money is awesome. Very disappointed that the one place I wasn’t concerned with is not returning our money is infuriating. Disney, really you need to keep ticket money from advanced purchases will make sure everyone knows that Disney screed us. Mickey is dead to me now

Very disappointed in the ticket refund policy. It is simple – we bought tickets and booked rides for specific dates – the park was closed for those specific dates and Disney was unable to complete our deal. Our deal was not for “some future time” Just give us our money back – It would be the Disney kind of thing to do and it does say something about the Disney brand.
TAK says
Mike, I completely agree with your comment. We have tickets for May- I haven’t called Disney yet but I am not going to be happy with having them sit as credits in my Disney account for months, a year, or more before we either have the chance, or feel comfortable returning to the parks. Disney decided to make tickets date specific and if they are not open on those specific dates they should be giving full refunds, full stop. I recently cancelled our JetBlue flights for the same trip and they offered either a full refund, or, if you kept your tickets as a credit, they were offering a 20% bonus in dollar value to add to it for future travel. I think that is fair, and Disney should offer people a choice: full refunds, or an incentive for using their tickets at an uncertain future date (and holding all of our $ for weeks, months, years?). Very disappointing corporate response. Duly noted Disney.

Disney, you have not acknowledged the policy for our tickets bought for SoCal 3 day passes. They were expiring in May. I bought two passes and my sister also bought 4 passes for her family. We would like to receive status on how the refunds are handled as the only eligible refunds are for year pass holders and that is definitely not a great consumer advocate decision on Disney’s reputation as the best place in the world. Please provide refund or emails to these particular Southern California tickets consumers. We paid a lot of money for them and are owed some type of recognition for our purchases.
DFB Sarah says
Dena, you need to contact Disneyland directly to inquire.
TAK says
Update on my experience- Disney has refunded our 8 day tickets! I’m very pleased. They said tickets with dates until mid May could be either credits, or refunds.

Annual park select pass holders both 70 with diabetes. Was advised by dr. Not to go until there is a vaccine. Paying monthly. Can we stop payment until it is safe to go?
Ben says
I had 10 days passes starting in June X, 2020 – that now show as June X, 2020 – Dec 15. 2020. I’m not clear if I can visit any 10 days between park open in July and Dec 15. – Or if I can start my 14 day window to use my 10 days on any day between July 11 and Dec. 15? Can I do some and then come back and do some more a few months later if one of our party gets sick? Or are we then out whatever portion of the ticket we didn’t use. I could apply the full value of the ticket to a future purchase (or possibly just get a refund) if I don’t use any days before 12/15 – so I’m reluctant to use a day and invalidate the ticket in a uncertain environment if there is not flexibility around getting to try to use up the 10 days.
DFB Sarah says
Ben, you’ll want to confirm with Disney what the dates mean.
