Yes, Disney World is currently under a construction halt in the parks, but that doesn’t mean that we’re not still seeing some interesting building permits pop up! Mysterious, we know.
Even with the pause on much of the physical work, Disney is apparently still getting prepped for some big parks projects! Just recently we spotted a bunch of permits for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge. And we’ve picked out a few more juicy permits to check out today. Let’s dive in!
Lovepop Store at Disney Springs
The first interesting permit we spotted was for an ALL-NEW STORE in Disney Springs! What??? It’s true! You might have seen the Lovepop kiosk last time you were in The Landing, but this cute little greeting card spot might be getting upgraded to a full-size storefront.
We spotted a permit for a “retail store buildout” for Lovepop at Disney Springs and we can’t be more excited! Lovepop has a lot of super creative 3D cards that you can take home to give to loved ones (or keep for yourself, we don’t judge). They even had a Baby Yoda valentine this year! COME ON. We’ll be keeping an eye out for an official announcement and for progress on the new shop.

Epcot Festival Kiosks
Alright, this next set of permits is a little bit of a mystery for us. Last week, we spotted 12 permits that were coded to various addresses around Epcot (mostly World Showcase). What do all these addresses have in common? They’re the ones registered to the Epcot Festival Kiosk sites!
The only catch is these permits are SUPER vague. They were filed with Disney’s internal construction company so their description is just, “provide labor, material, and/or electrical for construction.” Well, that’s REAL specific. Not!
So, it’s unclear what Disney is planning for the kiosks. It seems a little early to be outfitting them for the 2020 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. It could be an early filing for their take-down at the end of the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival which is set to end on June 1st.
Still, these structures are temporary, so most work on them doesn’t have to be filed with the county, leading us to think this work could be something a little larger-scope.
Or it could be none of that and Disney could just be refreshing some electrical fittings! Regardless, these permits definitely got our eyebrows raised and we’ll be sure to keep an eye out for any more information.

Play Pavilion
And we’ve saved the best for last! Drum roll, please. We’ve got another Play Pavilion permit! WOOHOO. You might remember when we spotted a few permits for the upcoming Pavilion last month. Well, it looks like work on this super mysterious new pavilion is coming along!
The new permit is for “added information and detail for set areas.” Yay! Although we’ll say that we sure wish WE had some “added information and detail” about the Play Pavilion. 😉 Alright, alright, maybe Disney hasn’t left us totally in the dark about the Pavilion. We do know that it’s set to be themed like a “digital metropolis” with games, activities, and experiences.
We can’t wait to check out some of the experiences like working alongside Edna Mode to rid the world of uninspired fashion or getting in a water balloon fight with Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby. Whatever these new set details are, we bet they’re cool. After all, the concept art for this spot is totally jaw-dropping. This indoor tech city is currently set to open sometime in 2021.

See! There IS stuff going on in Disney World — at least on the planning side! We’ll be sure to keep an eye on any more permits that show up during and after the Disney Parks closures. After all, we don’t want to miss out on ANY of the progress going on in Disney. Until next time!

Could the permit for the EPCOT kiosks be related to mobile ordering? That seems like a safer way to do things when the parks reopen.

construction jobs in my state have not stopped from this pandemic, why has Disney stopped all construction when the jobs have ample social distance?
