It’s been a little over a week since we heard that Florida would consider automatically enrolling employees from theme parks into the unemployment system.
Disney reached an agreement with the state to auto-enroll Cast Members earlier this week, and they’re not the only ones. Now another Orlando theme park giant has moved to aid its employees with enrollment. Today Universal Orlando announced that their workers would be auto-enrolled into the unemployment system.
According to Spectrum News Orlando, Universal Orlando will enroll its workers into the state unemployment system. Part-time, hourly theme park workers are set to be furloughed on May 3rd, so many of these workers will be added to the Florida unemployment system.
The auto-enrollment plan with major companies is to a way to help with the state’s overburdened unemployment system, per Governor DeSantis. None of the auto-enrolled workers will skip ahead of others who have applied for benefits at this time. It is unclear how many Universal Orlando workers are being enrolled in the system.
We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for any more updates about furloughed theme park employees in Florida!
