Good news! We finally have some information to share with our readers who are waiting to find out about their DVC points as well as an update on annual dues!
Disney World has just amended a few of its Disney Vacation Club policies that include some point extensions and a plan they’re currently working on regarding yearly fees! They sent out an email to share the news.
Expiring DVC Points
We know many of you have been wondering what would happen to your points that were going to expire during Disney World’s temporary closure. According to an email recently sent out by Disney, any “2019 Use Year points for April and June that are set to expire in 2020 and that were used for these reservations will be extended for one year from the current expiration date.”
Also, any “2018 Use Year points for April and June that were banked into 2019 and used for these reservations will be extended for six months from their current expiration date.”
Disney stated this policy is only temporary and only “includes expiring points that were used to book a stay between March 12 and the end of the closure period and that involve a reservation cancelled after February 29. In addition, to better support Member availability, Disney Vacation Club will not extend the life of our expiring developer points.”
And starting today, “Members who want to borrow points to complete a reservation will temporarily only be able to borrow up to 50 percent of their future Use Year points per contract, as permitted by your Home Rules and Regulations.”
By doing so, they’re hoping this will help members who want to schedule their vacations once the resorts reopen. They also wrote, “Points already borrowed for a stay outside the closure period will be honored, even if they are above the 50 percent threshold. We will continue to monitor our inventory and re-evaluate, with the goal of returning to our standard policy as soon as it is appropriate to do so.”
DVC Annual Dues:
Regarding annual association fees, Disney stated, “While lower operating costs are anticipated for each condominium association because of the closures, there are many unknowns ahead as the resorts return to operation. Our commitment to Guest and Cast safety remains our top priority, and changes may be implemented to the way we operate, which may add some new costs.”
“Given the unique circumstances of this situation, the proposal is to issue a credit to Members in mid-December as part of the distribution of Annual Dues Statements for 2021 if their association has an operating surplus (as opposed to rolling all surpluses into reserves).”
It looks like this proposal is only in the early stages of development and we’ll have to wait a little longer until they officially update their policy on annual dues. If you have any questions, you can see the updated policy on DVC’s website here.
We’re so happy to finally be able to bring you the good news you’ve been waiting for so you can start re-booking your trips to Disney World!

A.J. I’m usually a huge DVC plan but the thing about only being able to borrow half your available points for maybe all of next year honks me off. That’s s contractual obligation. Also, I feel bad for those DVC members who got hammered and lost points expiring around when the cancellations hit. That is not the members’ fault. Come on Disney. Also, they readjusted the 2021 points chart. WHATS UP WITH THAT?? A.J., Sarah, and Co., thanks for your awesome coverage. You guys could modify your motto “Where food is a theme park and where you get all the scoops.”

Very strange. So points set to expire April 30, 2020 and June 30, 2020 will be good and useable until April 30, 2021 and June 30, 2021. What about points set to expire May 31, 2020? What happens to those folks’ points? I’m not affected by this (although I do have points set to expire July 31, 2020), but am baffled about May 31, 2020 points not being mentioned.

This really isn’t good news. DVC Members are still losing points. We can’t use our points how it’s written in our contracts and other guests are getting refunds. As far as that dues “proposal” IF is a very big IF. Safety & sanitation measures could eat that up. I’m not sure how myself, but I would hope to also see Significant increases in regular resort reservations to compensate for the same costs.

That’s great!
You can’t use your points, they are limiting borrowing, and our DVC dues will go up. How is that even ethical, or just.
They may just see a lot of contracts on the market.
Not to mention that the boarders are closed so many international guests have even fewer options.

This definitely says we’re still charging you eventhough you cant use the resorts. In addition they’ve done nothing to curb monthly loan payments or dues.

It may be a wise idea to watch the news on a regular basis . Stay Informed of what’s happening in America as well as around the globe.
There are currently zero of the Disney theme parks open anywhere in the world. The theme parks in USA were the last to close . We are currently Practicing Social Distancing as well as stay in shelter orders across the globe. Our economy is going to open up slowly and in phases. The phases are weeks without escalated cases of COVID19.
There are currently 6 human clinical trials beginning in other countries for a vaccine. Johnson and Johnson are going to begin test trials in September. It takes a year to a year and a half to get vaccine approved and into the public. The best way to have a better understanding of our current circumstances is to stay informed.

I’m glad people are finally seeing the reality of “the best kept secret.” I have been a member for calmest 20 years & the last 5-6 have been trying.
@Mike YES! That’s exactly right. I contacted them SEVERAL times via phone & email. Thus doesn’t help anyone, but Walt Disney World. We maintain all the DVC resorts whether there’s a cash guest or not. Right now paying for any nominal maintenance, etc, but we’re not getting priority or MAYBE they’ll credit us?
We can’t use our points & then we still can’t use them when they open. Makes no sense.
They’re not doing right by members. I do t care if you’re new or old. But word to the wise if you’re on the fence about a DVC purchase, I would most definitely discourage that.

This is completely a blow to our plans. My parents are DVC members who save their points so we can take a big trip with all 11 of us. The is our year to do that. My sister is a nurse, and in January she requested time off for a week November – and now obviously is not allowed to adjust any time off for the rest of the year. All the DVC rooms are now booked up except for a handful of them for just a day or two at a time. We were prepared to face the fact that my parents were going to lose their 2019 points (their use year is September) and we would just try to book for 2021 when we were able to do so. Now that only 50% of future points can be borrowed, we can’t do this either. So, now we either have to decide who gets to go and who doesn’t in 2021, or just go through the next year and lose the points from 2020 so that we can all go together again. They have to know that a huge number of their members are saving points and borrowing like this so that they can take that once every few years trip. It’s a shame for them to have to pay dues and possibly lose 2 years of points.

Are the DVC mugs available online or only in stores?
Jackie says
@joey
I’m not being obnoxious, but are you really contemplating giving them more money? You used to be able to buy them online.
I’m looking at the county & state plans to open FL. 50 %, 75 % capacity. DVC & WDW are not saying anything, but they’re still allowing reservations to be made for resorts & dining after June 1st.
How is WDW or DVC going to determine who gets to keep their reservations? Is anyone thinking about this?
Maybe it will depend on what state you’re from. Surely NY, NJ, CT, CA & MA are out. (I’m from NY, so don’t attack on that one).
From earlier, @Susan GV, not every month is a use year. That may be why May wasn’t mentioned. I don’t know if May is or not, I’m just thinking that might be why it isn’t included.

Now the NBA wants to muscle in to the resorts to reopen their season. Nice. Never mind all the other problems, this is an entity that can push us all out. Money talks as they say.
Even when they have Rudy Gobert in their midst.
