While Governor Ron DeSantis has been meeting regularly with his committee to reopen parts of Florida and jumpstart the state’s economy, he hasn’t said when they’ll be putting their plans into action.
But now that Florida’s stay at home order will be expiring April 3oth, many residents are wondering what might happen next.
We’ve been bringing you regular updates regarding the task force’s suggested regulations for public safety measures in airports, cruise lines, hotels, restaurants, hair salons, and even some of the state’s theme parks once they reopen (although Disney World wasn’t specifically mentioned).
And while no timeframe has been provided by DeSantis who has said he’s more concerned with “getting it right” than setting a date, the Orlando Sentinel has reported the Re-Open Florida Task Force is expected to present a reopening outline on Wednesday.
“It’s not going to be something that a switch is going to be flipped,” DeSantis said in regards to his plans to gradually restart Florida’s commerce in stages. “This phase one is a baby step.” DeSantis stated, “I mean, we are deliberately going to be very methodical, slow and data-driven on this because I think that if people want to have confidence that things are going in a good direction, it gives us the ability to do things if we see something somewhere.”
So far, Florida’s healthcare system hasn’t seemed to be overwhelmed by cases. Its coronavirus-related death toll is approaching 1,200, and one model predicts fatalities will climb to just over 1,900 by summer — assuming social distancing will still be in effect until infected numbers are reduced and the virus is contained.
Along with plans for re-opening, Orange County officials are emphasizing the importance of having more testing facilities for Florida residents. So far, Florida has performed more than 368,000 COVID-19 tests.
Governor DeSantis says he has ordered the state surgeon general to allow licensed pharmacists to order and administer tests and that he’s also working with two labs who could help ramp up testing to 18,000 tests a day.

While this likely won’t be the answer to the burning question of, “When will Disney World re-open?” we’ll be watching Governor DeSantis make his announcement tomorrow and we’ll report back with full-coverage! Stay tuned!

Joe M says
This is a disaster waiting to happen, I have all faith in Disney to do the right thing its the people I have no faith in. I was in Walmart the other day this woman walks in no mask (it is required in PA. ) signs posted everywhere.
And made a scene when she was asked to leave the store. Now times this by 100 – and you know the first person to get Convid 19 will attempt to sue Disney.
These people like the ones that protested to return to work just don’t get it, you rather work and die or have someone in your family die because you’re a bone head. Unbelievable. People are stupid, ignorant, and some lack common sense. So before you complain that Disney should open, realize you’re probably one of those people.
Karen says
I would disagree with anything you said their Joe M, very well said.
Even though it will break my heart having to postpone my ‘Orlando/Disney’ holiday, that I will have to travel 6,000 mile to get to, and have spent 2 years planning… But… part of the whole Disney experience is strangely enough the crowds! I have come to realise that it is the crowds that make up part of the whole Disney experience. If there is still a reasonably high risk to people of getting Convid 19 then no parks will open (and there goes my July holiday) but there is NO POINT in any park opening if it is going to prolong this whole uniquely bazar, world wide situation.
As Joe said SOME people are total bone heads! I call on the general public use your common sense, Orlando needs it’s tourists, tourists cannot return until parks reopen, airlines cannot fly until people have somewhere to go, Parks will not open until it is safe enough to do so – none of them will be willing to risk an attempted law suit! So come on US residents follow advice and stay home until it’s safe enough.
Tim says
There is nothing to sue anyone about! It is not Disneys fault or any other companies fault if any gets COVID any more than it is if they got the flu or measles. As for wearing masks, the ONLY people who should wear one is people who are worried about getting COVID. If you are willing to take the risk that is 100% your choice. If you are not, then wear a mask and or stay home. The problem is, those who are scared want to impose their fear on the rest of us. that’s NOT AMERICA! #UNAFRAID!
Pat says
Don’t wear a mask? You are one of the boneheads! In case you haven’t heard the virus is extremely contagious and DEADLY. No one is trying to spread fear to anyone – these are the cold hard facts Jack. Don’t protect yourself and take the high risk of getting covid and then spread it to everyone you are in contact with – including your spouse, kids, mother, father and on and on. Not to mention the strain this is putting on our doctors, Ems and nurses. My Disney trip was scheduled for March 14 of this year and was cancelled due to Disney shutting down two days before and I am so glad they made the choice for me. Amusement parks, concerts sports, etc. are not a necessity right now. Let’s get a vaccine created and out there before we even think about a nice perk like Disney. By the way ask Sweden how not wearing masks and social distancing is working out for them! I take it back you are not a bonehead – you are a moron! Come on America use your common sense and stay home until it’s safe for your own good like Karen said. UNBELEIVABLE!
Tim says
I am 100% certain that as a board certified Registered Nurse with both a BSN & MSN and 12 years of experience 10 of which is in public health and infectious disease that I understand COVID far better than you or Joe or Karen. Staying home until there is a vaccine is NOT a realistic approach. There may NEVER be a vaccine! What would you propose, everyone stay home forever? The smart thing to do is allow healthy people the opportunity to pursue life, liberty & happiness while those at risk also make their own decisions – stay home, wear a mask, or whatever works for you. This allows healthy people who 99.9% have little to no problem with COVID to get it and develop protection that’s called HEARD IMMUNITY! When enough people are immune the disease has far fewer susceptible hosts and dies out. This is a logical, fact based argument free of name calling or fear mongering.
Pat says
Well then – you know it all! Good luck. Us “fear mongers” will return stay clear of the large heard. It’s not about fear or spreading it, it’s about common sense.

@Tim
I lean to agree more with you. I’m not against a mask as I wouldn’t want to bring this to my family who are compromised. But I was in WDW until 3/10. Flew home to NY. All is well. The only thing we changed about our trip was cancelling buffet meals. I’m not a fan usually anyway.
As a healthcare worker for 23 years in NYC & the NYC area, you can’t be afraid of everything.
I think most populous states or ones with higher numbers are making masks mandatory for awhile.
Karen says
I seem to have been very miss understood! I am not scared or panicking. I am jut trying to follow our governments advice. Which is to stay indoors except for essential travel and NOT wearing masks. I am following our governments advice… but I do agree with you Tim, what are we the general public suppose to do? Follow our Governments advice or follow our instincts?
The world is dealing with this global pandemic in very different ways which is leading to so much confusion. My thought now is that there will be a new world wild ‘normal’ be this a good thing or a bad thing only time will tell. But the public (and theme park lovers) now have no choice until the people who do make the decisions decide what we can/cannot do. Let’s hope and pray they make the best decisions they can and are well informed.
I apologise for any offence I have caused
