Less than a week ago, Disney began canceling reservations for guests who had bookings during the week of May 17th through 23rd, 2020.
And even though Shanghai Disneyland recently announced it will be reopening on May 11th, another batch of cancellation letters are being sent out to folks with plans to visit Disney World or Disneyland later this month.
Notifications are now being sent out to guests with arrival dates beginning May 24th through May 31st. The message is very similar to prior emails and directs people to “modify or cancel their Disney Resort hotel reservations or Walt Disney Travel Company packages.” If guests didn’t book their trip directly with Disney, they should contact the travel agency they used.
Disney World is still currently accepting reservations starting June 1st. But do keep in mind that this does not confirm that Disney World is officially opening in June.

Furthermore, if no action is taken by the guest, Disney will automatically cancel and process a refund for any bookings during the week of May 24th through 31st, 2020. Note: you will be able to apply the full value of your booking towards future visits without penalties or fees.

You can also cancel many of your reservations online through My Disney Experience under “My Reservations.”
Eligible guests who were affected by these cancelations can take advantage of a private free dining offer.
Disney World invites you to reschedule your trip with this special package offer valid for arrivals starting June 1st through September 30th, 2020 which you can book now through May 31st.

As of today, May 7th, I have not received any correspondence from Disney on cancelling my May 17th reservations. I took it upon myself, however, to “modify” my current reservation to the end of June without any restriction and full availability. I’m just playing this by ear so hopefully we’ll get to do late June. I’m totally cool with not being able to go in May but I was SO hoping that they would do the right thing and do a soft opening with the hotels and Disney Springs. I don’t understand why they aren’t when according to CDC guidelines and the governor, that they’re totally able and capable of doing that. I’m disappointed that’s all. The good news is that I can hope for June. If not June then I’ll just go in late September on another previous reservation that I made in January. Things should settle down by then.

As of May 17th I still have my reservation to stay at Walt Disney World Resort Hotel for memorial day weekend. I called and they said nothing is canceled and to keep on checking their updates daily on their site.
