Florida began re-opening businesses to the public on May 4th and has been progressing slowly each day.
A few days ago, Disney World announced that they would begin re-opening retail and restaurants in Disney Springs on May 20th, but other Orlando area shopping and dining locations are already opening back up.
The Mall at Millenia in Orlando re-opened today with a new set of procedures for patrons and stores.
According to WESH2 News, The General Manager of the Mall, Steven Jamieson, stated “Everyone has a different threshold of what will make them feel safe coming out to the marketplace again and we want to take the whole sanitation aspect out of guests’ visit to the mall.”
The mall installed several hand sanitizer dispensers, mall workers are frequently spraying down surfaces, and shoppers and workers are “encouraged” to wear masks.
Jamieson reported that nearly 50 stores opened today and more plan to open later this week. Stores are required to monitor and enforce social distancing and must keep their capacity below 25%.
Stores are opening at their own discretion, but certain stores, like Apple, remain closed and are awaiting corporate approval to re-open. Other stores are taking time to re-train their employees and update inventory.
The food court is operating under a new rotating seating system. Diners are directed to a specific section and after they finish, that section is closed and sanitized before the next group is seated.
Disney Springs plans to follow similar procedures including limiting capacity, requiring face coverings, increasing safety measures, and re-training cast-members for their May 20th re-opening.
