We spent the day exploring a newly reopened Disney Springs and there were some changes to the complex in general.
We were especially interested in what changes there were to dining. We’re not going to lie to you, we had a bunch of lunches today, but we did come back with a lot of knowledge about how third-party Disney Springs restaurants are instituting new health measures. Let’s take a look at what we learned at Frontera Cocina — and what we ATE.
Check-In
When we got to Frontera Cocina, we were met at the door by some pretty enthusiastic staff. In fact, the staff seemed to be in good spirits for pretty much our whole visit. According to a manager, the team came back early for safety training.
The manager shared that there are some new protocols, but they still want things at Frontera Cocina to feel like a fiesta.
Health Measures
Right at the door, we noticed that there were some hand sanitizer stations for guest use. Of course, there are tons of these out and about in Disney Springs too, but Frontera Cocina did have their own as well.
Like most dining and merchandise locations in the complex, Frontera Cocina had placed stickers to encourage physical distancing.
As people left, we spotted that managers were sanitizing and wiping down every table and chair between guests.
Menu
Like many other locations, there were some changes to the menu too. You could opt to go touchless with a digital menu. The tent signs on the table had the QR codes needed to access the online menu. Once you scan the code with your smartphone, it automatically takes you to the online version of the Frontera Cocina menu.
Alternatively, they also had paper menus. According to our server, they’ve always had paper menus with the date printed, but now they aren’t reusing them with multiple guests.
Our server joked that we should take ours as a historical souvenir.
Food and Drink
They were using standard glass and silverware. Our server handed us a paper-wrapped agave straw and was sure to tell us where he had touched the straw so that we didn’t touch the same spot.
We opted to order the Chipotle Chicken Flautas and the Play with Fire Margarita. When our server brought our food, he carried it normally without the use of gloves — unlike many of the other locations we dined. The food looked great, and as usual, Frontera Cocina’s cuisine delighted!
The Play with Fire Margarita was awesome like all drinks typically are at Frontera. This cocktail is made from cucumber, jalapeño, fresh lime juice, agave nectar, a hibiscus salt rim, and your choice of Montelobos mezcal or Tromba Blanco Tequila. There was a balance of sweetness from the agave and tart from the lime. It was super refreshing with just the slightest amount of heat!
And our Chipotle Chicken Flautas were pretty darn spectacular too. Our server let us know that they are filled with a mix of their mashed potatoes and chicken, so how could we not like them? The flavors were so yummy all melded together and they were a good portion for a starter!
To-Go Option
If you don’t have time for a full sit-down meal at Frontera Cocina, they are running a To-Go Window out of the closed Taco Express.
Overall
Overall, Frontera Cocina visibly cleaning surfaces and employees were informative. The QR menu was simple and easy to use and our food was delicious. The Cast informed us of new processes and shared how eager they were to be back at work and that excitement was visible and could be felt during our meal.
