We learned today that in addition to the Disney World theme parks preparing to open this July, Disney Vacation Club Resorts will be reopening to its Members and guests on June 22. In addition, Disney’s Vero Beach Resort and Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort will reopen on June 15.
Ahead of the resorts opening, Disney sent an email to its Vacation Club members outlining several new measurements that will be in place when the properties reopen in just a few weeks.
It was noted that, “all Members and guests will be asked to wear face coverings in public resort areas while not eating or drinking and to respect physical distancing.”
While news of these face coverings protocol doesn’t come as a terribly huge surprise, it further adds to the stringent health and safety procedures that Disney will have in place to ensure the safety of their guests and Cast Members.
In addition to the required face coverings, other safety protocols will be in place, including increased sanitation efforts in each room prior to the guest’s arrival. Physical distancing will also be implemented across resort properties, in areas like “lobbies, pools, fitness centers, and other public areas.”

Brittney says
I have a reservation for Hilton Head in July. I wonder if we will have to wear face coverings at the pool or beach?
Brandon says
Asking someone to do something is NOT a requirement for them to do it. Maybe the English language is lost on the poster..
Doug says
My big concern and questions are about the transportation system to and from the resorts and the Magical Express.
Jack Anderson says
Wearing a mask is not enjoyable but vacation should be. People should have a choice. If wearing a mask makes you feel safe then wear one. There are many people who do not feel any perceived benefit outweighs any slight risk. It will be extremely difficult to keep a mask on kids. Let people make their own decisions on their health.
Adrienne says
Planning on being there July 11th for a week. Will the resorts have the pools open and will the other usual resort amenities be available? If we are being limited in or access to the parks, we will want to have other things at the resorts to do. That’s the stuff I need to know!
DFB Sarah says
Adrienne, Disney has said nothing about pools that I know of. However they have indicated that general areas like playgrounds will not be available. We will update when Disney releases more information.
Anthony Lepore says
People claiming personal freedom being denied by forcing them to wear masks are thinking only of themselves. They are also to protect people they come in contact with.
Jess says
What about the other resorts? That are not DVC, Will face mask be mandatory? Will the pools be open? I know there’s no face masks while in the pool but how about out of the water? Will there be a limit on pool capacity? Like only certain amount of people allowed in at one time? What about when you exit the pool and sit at a table to eat ? And lastly what about walking outdoors in the resorts? Are masks required then too? 🤦♀️
DFB Sarah says
Jess, good questions! I can’t answer most because Disney hasn’t released info, so let me see what I can try to clarify. I think we expect the same mask protocols at all the Resorts when they all eventually open. DVC Resorts are the first to open starting June 22. Resort mask protocol is that masks must be worn in public areas — so not in your room but I think poolside would count as a public area. As for eating food at a poolside table, I’m not sure. Table Service restaurants allow diners to remove their masks, but let me check with the team on Quick Service.
DFB Sarah says
Jess — our onsite team members confirm that they saw diners at Quick Service restaurants with seating had masks removed while seated to eat. I can’t say that will be the policy poolside, but that’s as close as I can get to an answer for that.
Jess says
Why do you keep repeating that face masks are required at resorts? The wording says “ask” I also called dvc to find out if they were “required” they said no. The wording for Disney springs clearly says “required” nothing for the resorts says “required” you could be liable for false information.
Mr.John says
If you are facing some one you needed a ” MASK ” today is 12 to15 feet on the local radio 📻 . I wear a mask everyday at work I do not even now it is on because have using it for 2 months I am 59 years of age I will live for another 40 years I will do what I needed to do to live longer ! People are not to smart a mask will prolong it to come in to your body might get sick like the flu depends on your physical problem ‘s !!!😣
DFB Sarah says
Jess, the language in the proposed opening presentation said “required face coverings while on property”, and DisneyWorld.com notes guests “are required to wear face coverings when visiting Walt Disney World Resort”. These seem to be umbrella statements that would encompass the Resorts as well. To your point, though, we’re still awaiting Resort-specific protocols.
Roxane says
How do you swim in a pool with a face mask???
Mr. John says
Thank you Sara for backing me up .Iam a DVC member I get all my information from disney , DVC web sight ! Nothing is in black and white they will change on a dime ! Jess needed to be more informed!😃 People demand say what they want to believe !
DFB Sarah says
Roxane, Disney has said masks are not required for dining or in pools.
